Crystal Sorey, the mother of Harmony Montgomery, says she fainted after learning the new details of how her daughter was killed, allegedly by her own father, Adam Montgomery

[snip]
"I knew what he had done to her was for something very small," said Sorey. "Something that a toddler would do."
[snip]
"The fact he had to move her around from place to place trying to cover his own tracks is despicable to me," said Sorey. "It was his own baby."
[snip]
"I'm hoping that somebody is going to come forward and say, 'Hey, I remember that U-Haul,'" said Sorey.

Harmony's remains have yet to be found.

"There's still hope I'll be able to bring her home," said Sorey.

Where is Harmony Montgomery’s body? Unsealed documents offer some clues

Harmony Montgomery

Google Map showing the distance between the U-Haul facility in Manchester, New Hampshire where authorities say Adam Montgomery rented a vehicle to transport Harmony's body, and the Tobin Bridge in Boston, where it was recorded passing through a toll gantry. (Google)

[...]

Brendon Middleton drove the van to the gas station right next to the U-Haul facility and then either Travis Beach or his girlfriend, Britney Bedard, picked the van up and drove it to the Econo Lodge in Manchester where Adam Montgomery and his wife, Kayla Montgomery, Harmony’s stepmother, were reportedly staying.

[...]

Johnson believed that Beach had mentioned the west side of Manchester as areas they might’ve gone and possibly a street starting with the letter “C.” Johnson also believed that Beach might’ve been the one driving the U-Haul when this all happened.

[...]

After Middleton rented the U-Haul van, investigators determined Montgomery drove 133 miles on the truck, which cost about $32.49 and was paid by card under Britney Bedard, who was Beach’s girlfriend. There was an additional charge of $104.74, which reportedly wasn’t paid.

Three toll violations were reported by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, with the specific U-Haul van Adam was supposedly driving at that time.

The violations occurred on March 4, 2020 at three different times: 4:44 a.m. at the Tobin Bridge North, 4:45 a.m. at the Tobin Bridge South, and 5:25 a.m. at the Tobin Bridge local north. These times matched up with Kayla’s description of when Adam was using the U-Haul to dispose of Harmony’s body, according to the court documents.

The U-Haul rental location at 515 South Willow Street in Manchester, New Hampshire, is about 54 minutes away from the Tobin Bridge, which equals about 49.6 miles one way. If Adam drove the vehicle over the Tobin bridge and back, that equals about 99.2 miles total, leaving about 13.8 miles left from the 133 miles Bedard paid for on her credit card.

Photo evidence from MassDOT was provided of the U-Haul van that caused these violations but the photos had been distorted for privacy reasons and it’s not possible to identify the driver or see how many passengers there may have been, according to the court documents.

25 Investigates: Commission to study childs ‘best interests’ reintroduced on Beacon Hill

A proposed commission to study and potentially recommend changes to how child ‘care and protection’ cases are handled in Massachusetts is back on the table on Beacon Hill.

The ‘Harmony Commission’ would examine how to balance the rights of parents without jeopardizing the wellbeing and safety of children. It also would study how these cases disproportionately impact children of color, immigrant children, children with disabilities, LGBTQ children and children from low-income backgrounds.

The commission is named in honor of Harmony Montgomery, the 5-year-old Massachusetts foster child was murdered, allegedly by her biological father in New Hampshire.

In 2018, Congress passed a resolution calling on states to reform family courts to ensure judges were making rulings that put a child’s safety first in custody cases.

Since then, more than 200 children have been murdered by a parent whom a family court awarded sole custody despite having either evidence or conviction of child abuse against them. According to the Department of Justice, a total of more than 800 have been murdered by a parent in the United States over the past decade.

After hearing from both sides, Hillsborough Superior Court Judge Amy Messer sentenced Montgomery to at least 30 years in prison and up to 60 years on the charges of being an armed career criminal. He was also sentenced to an additional 7 1/2 to 15 years for receiving stolen property and theft. On each of those sentences, five years can be suspended for good behavior.

Harmony's biological mother left the courtroom after hearing him speak.

Outside the court, she said, "He wants people to feel sympathy for him .... You know, he is trying to be a victim, you know? But if he didn't do it, who did?" she said. "Your own wife said that you did it. She was there with you, sir.... There's nothing he can say now that's going to save him."

Montgomery's lawyers filed the appeal on a number of points, including whether Montgomery's estranged wife Kayla Montgomery should have been able to testify at trial, WMUR first reported.

Adam Montgomery was sentenced to 15-30 years in prison on each of two charges of being an armed career criminal – with both sentences to be served consecutively -- and 71/2 to 15 years on two theft-related charges.
