NH NH - Laureen Rahn, 14, Manchester, 27 April 1980

and then I read somewhere that she was wearing brown shoes and what that sweater it shows in the picture I assume other things. stephen2016 It's really difficult to speculate on anything without knowing the sources of information. From what has been said so far I'm leaning on abduction and not a runaway. Specially if her purse was left behind. And that a suitcase or something wasn't taken. It's almost assured that she would of taken more things with her if it was voluntary. As for the phone calls maybe an accomplice who knows. Assumingly they must at least know where the calls originated from. And whoever made those calls apparently also knew the pin # in order to charge those calls an accomplice or maybe hacker. I guess leaning on Laureen never left the area of NH. Also the thought that someone knew Judith wasn't home but also that Laureen was there. Sounds like it was quick in the front door and out the back. Maybe even a vehicle waiting in the back. Back door to the hallway may of been locked and the front door wasn't, otherwise why not leave through the same door it was entered by.

Is there any way to find out if Terry Rasmussen was in California at the times Laureen was making calls to her mother from there?
thats if the calls were actually made by Laureen. But it could of been her I guess. The collect calls were made and from what I've heard a pin number was used. It was possible to make that collect call if one had the pin. Anyways apparently the calls were made from that motel, but by who?

Being barefoot is strange, however late April, she may have snuck out without shoes, thinking she would return. Perhaps the stairs were noisy? I know people who routinely go barefoot, especially young people. It is a bit like the wearing shorts year round, even when you live in a wintery climate.

It is unusual though.
I think it was 58 or 54 that day and down to about 44 - 48 that night. Whoever knew Judith or her boyfriend must of known they wouldn't be home, but how long would they be away. Understood also that a few relatives may of checked in on Laureen as well. Maybe it was planned and she was stalked. It's difficult to imagine a runaway leaving so many things behind. Why were the bulbs unscrewed, maybe the person didn't want to be seen and maybe identified, I assume it was after it was dark out and being in the dark in the event that someone came to their door it's possible someone might of recognized them. But how would they know the other person was asleep. Why not just go out the front door, why the back door that was left opened. I guess if one's hands were full it might be difficult to close and lock the back door. Unscrewing the light bulbs ... Mabe there were two people one to open the back door and make their exit either to a waiting car or they lived nearby.

Has it been looked into if Laureen and the girl were given a Mickey so to speak. They are suitable for use as knock-out drugs especially because of the rapid onset of their effect (within 10 to 30 minutes), but also because they induce amnesia and can only be detected for a short time (short half-life).

Maybe it's possible that Laureen was given a date drug shortly before that 12:30 hearing of voices by a neighbor also. Maybe Laureen was carried out of the apartment.

In slang, a Mickey Finn (or simply a Mickey) is a drink laced with an incapacitating agent, particularly chloral hydrate, given to someone without their consent with the intent to incapacitate them or "knock them out"; hence the colloquial name knockout drops. Serving someone a "Mickey" is most commonly referred to as "slipping someone a mickey".

The "spiking" of drinks is a practice used by sexual predators at drinking establishments who lace alcoholic drinks with sedative drugs.

Benzodiazepines can cause amnesia when taken in combination with alcohol or opioids. Flunitrazepam, in particular, has the reputation of being a "date-rape" drug. Above all in the 1990’s,
colorless and tasteless flunitrazepam tablets, as they then were, were often thus misused by being added to drinks, Often, tablets were dissolved in water beforehand for this purpose. As a result, the manufacturer changed the composition of the tablet in 1999 so that it has a bluish color, discolors drinks to which it is added, precipitates in solution, and tastes slightly bitter. Tablets of the older type are still available in some countries, however, and they are still often sold by generic drug manufacturers and other companies.

Illicit use of Rohypnol began in the 1970s in Europe and appeared in the United States in the early 1990s. Much of the concern surrounding Rohypnol is its abuse as a "date rape" drug.

I'm a Native New Englander, and can say when young, especially people will dress/act as if this is 20 degrees warmer and think nothing of it. Not saying Laureen did, only that it is not strange to see people dressed/acting as if it's much warmer.

I could see a teenager run "downstairs" barefoot and hop in a car to say something to a friend/acquaintance go for a ride, for example. If she thought she was coming right back, or if she just got in a car thinking it was a few minutes--i.e. "hop in the car, have a beer/a hit of a joint/listen to this song/it's warmer in the car" and then....?

Not sure how to explain the lightbulbs. It's weird, but in a walk up apartment like that, anything could be possible?

When I commented, a thread just popped up for a current missing teen (Dec 9th this year) in NY. No coat, phone and possibly no shoes. This one seen getting into a car....https://www.websleuths.com/forums/threads/ny-emma-gervasi-15-seen-on-video-5pm-getting-in-dark-honda-in-front-of-her-home-no-phone-or-coat-terrell-st-patchogue-9-dec-2024.732162/

I'm not familiar with this, but that basic scenario of popping outside, maybe not even planned, seems very possible to me with Laureen. Laureen may have willingly gotten into a vehicle with someone who wasn't the "friend" she thought they were....

for some reason I started thinking about someone slipping her a Mickey and the other girl's as well in their drinks. Not sure if a six pack ad a bottle of wine would of so inebriated them they could not remember the prior evening. But a Mickey in their drinks would or could. Or the voices in the front hallway that the neighbor also heard. 12:30 AM is a little early . Sounding like a predator and maybe planned out and orchestrated.

It is certainly possible someone slipped them something.

There were 3 young people drinking, right? The 21 year-old guy probably had more experience, but I could see an 8th grade girl absolutely being drunk from a small amount. Her friend was the same age from what I remember, so even if the girls had been hanging around with older people and being a bit wild the odds are they *probably* had not been doing so for very long.

I thought the young man drinking with the girls heard voices so he left because he thought it was Laureen's mom? It would be useful to know if he brought the alcohol or if the girls got it from someone else. (i.e. the possibility Laureen worked in a store that day in exchange for it) Or did they use other drugs that night and no one admitted to doing so? Could something have gone wrong--i.e overdose?

I'm leaning on the premise she may have been abducted and it was planned and orchestrated. She may of been unconscious reason maybe no sign of a struggle. A neighbor in the building also claimed to have heard voices in the front hallway. I think it was about 11:30 PM heading towards the Rahn's apartment. But then again if Laureen locked the back door when the guest left maybe she wasn't unconscious and sleeping on the couch. It has been said the mother came back from the Tennis match that was out of town about 1:15 AM.. So that is about One Hour or so from when it has been said Laureen locked the back door. But the back door was said to be opened and the front door was unlocked. As for the collect phone calls made I think about 4 months after someone knew the pin number to place those calls. Where there other collect calls maybe before that day April 26th or 27th of 1980.

10:19 PM in Manchester right now. Thinking about what was happening 45 years ago in Laureen's apartment at this exact moment. Was she having fun? Was the reason for her disappearance already lurking, or was it a total surprise? Or had she already met her fate? It's strange to think about what was happening at this exact moment almost half a century ago and still not have an answer.

Bumping for Laureen.

Been reading about and following numerous cases for years at this point, none stuck in my mind like this one. Perhaps it was fate that I discovered Laureen's case around the 45th anniversary. This case is the first one which I wanted to actively follow and participate in discussions, theories etc. Even after months upon learning about it, it still feels so eerie, unreal, and the first time I saw it, it captivated me to the point where it made me watch True Detective, as well as present the case to any and all friends who would listen, be they in the true crime sphere or not.
Checking for updates on Laureen every week and praying her mom finds out the truth one day, as well as all of us who're following the case.

Any thoughts here on the possible connection to
Terry Peder Rasmussen?

In my opinion, any and all proposed connections to other cases and killers are products of law enforcement laziness and/or incompetence. When their first wrong assumption of it being a textbook runaway ended up being wrong they went straight to more wrong assumptions. Cases like Laureen's were unfortunately handled differently back in the day, might as well throw her together with other missing girls in the area and call it a day.
Therefore, I'd be very surprised if in the end her case turns out to actually be connected to any which are speculated about in popular theories.

My daughter and I came across the "I am here"video this evening. The number sequence in the comments written by the poster, who claims to be her is hexadecimal, like binary code, it says Brazil, Venezuela, India, Syria, don't know what that means exactly. The letters though, in a separate comment, The letters lead to a thesis paper written by a french engineer (? I think?) Timothée Mathieu, statistics thesis I believe, and we have found the mans linkedin and he seems to know plenty of hackers/cyber security guys. I just find it to be very interesting.
