What I am saying (IMO) is that family sources over the years appear to like to fudge facts and twist them around to fit a certain narrative when it comes to Maura.

1. Her relationship with billy was perfect
2. Maura left West Point on her own terms
3. Maura was the all-American girl
4. Maura just didn't have enough time (14 days) to unpack (A SINGLE THING) from winter break.
5. Maura was drinking cherry mountain dew (Code Red) and surely that is what police found when they are describing the pinkish liquid dumped by Maura's car after her accident
6. Maura had ALL of her textbooks, so it has to prove that she was going to keep up with her studies. ... So she brings all of her studies with her but just a few clothes and very little money for a mysterious and very peculiar (one-week break from school -- afterall, who wouldn't need a break from a new semester of school that began less than two weeks earlier.
Give me a break.

I completely agree. Maura's family have a narrative and they're sticking to it.

Just from the disappeared programme, it seems very obvious to me that they wont even consider any other possibilities. e.g. "Maura wasnt a liar, but she did lie". Paraphrasing now, "Maura had her running clothes which PROVES she was going to keep up her fitness regime". Right- because there is NO possible reason why anyone would want to wear comfortable jogging clothes unless they intend to go jogging is there? Anyone who throws on a pair of sweat pants clearly has the intention to run a marathon! Also, "Maura took her textbooks, -that means she was clearly intending to keep up with her studies". No mention of the possibility that they might have been in the car already.

I get it. I get that they want to preserve the best possible memory of Maura but for the life of me, I dont get their unwillingness to even *explore* other possibilities. Its almost as if their need to protect Maura is MORE important to them than actually finding her. I find it really strange, and sad. I'm also just thinking, if WE feel frustrated by their single-mindedness (and we arent even related to them), imagine how Maura must have felt....

It is extremely common for family members and other loved ones to be in denial about suicidal people, and that explains, in part, the family's version of what must have happened to Maura. In addition, I think Fred and the rest of the Murrays believed, and still believe, that LE would be less encouraged to look for her if they think she committed suicide, rather than if she was killed by a bad guy.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up already, but what was the reason given for why Maura left West Point?

It depends on you ask.

Family spokespeople will point out that Maura had planned the move from West Point to UMASS (many months before) she actually made the move because she wanted to go from killing people (military) to healing them (nursing).

Others have pointed to Maura being kicked out of West Point for an honor code violation which involved drinking and stealing.

Just like many things about this case that would answer questions, the truth IS out there and IS NOT being hidden by police.

Regarding the homeless woman - IMO it's very unlikely that this relates to the case, but a couple points:

-If it WERE Maura, why would she be honest about her situation? She'd give a fake name, age, history, etc. I don't know whether or not the police have considered that this may all be false, but I wouldn't put much weight into whatever she said about herself, especially if you're looking at it from the angle that she could be Maura.

-I don't really understand why it was significant that a homeless woman was found in the woods? Homeless people are everywhere. "Found" makes it sound like she was missing from somewhere. Why is it newsworthy that someone stumbled upon a homeless person?

Anyway, this probably isn't relevant to Maura.

I don't understand why this woman was posted on a random website? No one else posts homeless people's faces that "they find" regardless of location. Did she want to be found? Was she injured? I don't understand the situation. She could possibly look similar to what Maura would look like if she spent years on the streets but you also can only see half her face.

If you read it, she did give a different name and story. Thats what happened is there is no charlene stewart missing from florida and i think that whatever database the NG used came up with nothing. So that peeked his interst. Follow the link to the missing person website.

Well, I guess that's what happens when I don't pay attention. Eek. That was embarrassing.

On quite another note:
There is right now quite a discussion going on at the James Renner Maura Murray web site regarding a VT lady, Jean Caccovaro, 31, who apparently disappeared back in 1977 at the intersection of Rtes 112 and 116 at about the point where Maura was possibly/allegedly seen by the construction worker RF driving home from his work in Franconia,NH, shortly after Maura´s crash at the Weathered Barn curve some 4-5 miles to the west.
There are a few old newspaper articles about the Caccovaro case to be found on the web, but strangely her name does not come up on Websleuths for some reason.
Any ideas at all?

No idea, and I had not heard of the case until now. Was she ever found? The last name is unique enough that relatives might be easy to track down on social media.

Looks like her family has nothing about her on their facebook pages, so my guess is that she was eventually found.

She disappeared in 1977 - I can't imagine most people would have anything on facebook about someone gone 35 years ago.

I certainly can. You would think that at least ONE of her children over the course of three years, would have a picture or something, anything about her.

My father died when I was a teenager 25 years ago. You wouldn't know it from any of my social media.

It is not being dead, but rather being a missing person. If it is true that Jean Caccavaro's daughter married Claude Moulton, I do find that a little odd. It is probably just a coincidence, but still, sort of interesting.

In an article I read about Jean, she is described as being highly depressed and acting very unusual the day she went missing.

If there are any coincidences with Maura, maybe it has more to do with emotional state than location.

I would have to call the whole thing a bit of a coincidence. That one location on the planet should be the starting point for two women who disappeared is interesting. I mean this is not Time's Square, or some other place that a million people pass through in a day.
