From the post... On Episode 7 of Media Pressure, MM’s sister says (regarding the father’s lawsuit for the case records):
“Although we didn't gain access to most of the records, we did learn some valuable information as a result of the court case. We learned four polygraphs were administered, one wire tap was requested, grand jury subpoenas were issued, and police logs and dispatch records were withheld because they could pinpoint a suspect.”

Am I reading this right? Or maybe unaware of the context?

“…..were withheld because they could pinpoint a suspect.”

Does this mean at some point LE had not only a suspect, but had certain evidence that pointed to that suspect?

It's a little more complicated than that, those covering the case for the most part know a lot less about the case than he does and more importantly know northern New Hampshire way less than he does.

It doesn't change the fact that he comes off as being a bit of a quack.

IMO but yes, absolutely. especially when they moved Maura's case to VICAP (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program).

Reading articles like this just shows how unstable her life was at the time and that she really should not have had a vehicle at all. But instead of taking her vehicle away she borrows a car from her dad to go to a party...... which she goes on to wreck. Sometimes it might be better to not look into the details of this case because it doesn't paint a very pretty picture of what Maura's life was like back in 2004.

I still think Israel Keyes. still..I can't shake it. his stomping grounds, his MO..I heard he referred to unsolved murders that were thought to be accidents..and hiding his victims in icy lakes never to be found. it just pings. mOO

People like to attach a mystery to a specific name. However the chances of a random disappearance being the result of a known serial killer is incredibly small. Most of the time it's people that already knew them or have no prior killings and it happened in the spur of the moment.

I don’t have a link for this - am going from memory of a discussion of this possibility from long ago - but I believe he had rented a vehicle in Salt Lake City the same week she disappeared and only drove a few hundred miles, not enough to get to VT.

true but he was also known to switch vehicles or switch things up so there was never a direct line, zig zagging..it seems hard to rely on that information, because he was tricky and diabolical. like I wonder if they can tell if drove it consecutively over a period of days...or did he leave it somewhere and come back for it? He would definitely make himself hard to trace this way , especially if he was executing a plan. I think this is good evidence that he is not involved, but it is not perfect because of what we know about his behavior. mOO

I wish we had the actual 911 call from FW. Not a transcript, nothing redacted or omitted. The actual call. I want to know the details of the crash from Faith's POV, and more details about the man she saw smoking.
It's not definite there was actually a man smoking according to this article (among others)-

By now, everyone is aware of this and of all the details.

i mean... yeah. we can say this about any witness statement that conflicts with others.

a reference to the cigarette-smoking man first appeared in the Grafton County Log.

Faith Westman called at 7:27 PM and that she can see a man in Maura's car smoking a cigarette. We learned through a FOIA request that Faith's call was one minute and eighteen seconds, meaning that it ended at about 7:28:18. See archive of Erinn's blog post.

The APN interview with the Westmans explicitly states that Faith hung up the phone with police before the Westmans saw what appeared to be the man smoking a cigarette:
Mrs. Westman said she called 911 right away and had no trouble getting through. Either 911 or the police department hung up with them after getting their information (I didn’t ask which entity she talked to).

Both the Westmans said that they saw whoever had been in the car when it crashed get in and out of the car several times. They made sure to say that they could not recognize it as Maura Murray because it was too dark, but they could see the form of someone moving around. They said that they saw the interior light go on and off several times and heard the doors shut as if someone kept getting in and out of the car. They also said they saw the person open the trunk and close it as well during this time.5 They never saw anyone else around that car besides that one person and never saw any other vehicles stop, prior to police arrival, other than a school bus.6

The Westmans said that 4 to 5 minutes after the car crashed, they saw a school bus come from around the comer and stop in the road next to the car. They didn’t see who was driving but heard later that it was Butch Atwood. They said that his wife also drives bus and also is large like he is so it very well could have been her for all they knew. They indicated they understood his wife did not have his last name but went by Reynolds. The Westmans said that the school bus was between them and Maura and that she had gotten out of the car, but she did not get on the bus. It seemed that the bus driver talked to her for no more than two minutes and the driver never got out of the bus, or out of the seat for that matter. The driver drove off and the car’s driver went back to the car.

When I asked the Westman’s about the timeline between that point and when the police arrived, they said that it took about 15 minutes for the police to arrive after the bus left. They felt sure that it could have been that long but no shorter than 10 minutes. During this time, they saw someone smoking a cigarette from inside the car from the front passenger side seat.

Several different interviews mention the man smoking a cigarette but to your point, there is one interview where they mention a detail of "a red dot": White Wash interview

Point being - nothing is definite in this case because the case has been held tight with barely any info to the public. i'd like all of the 911 calls to be unredacted and released to determine for ourselves what exactly they might have seen.

Yes, it seems to me that the red dot was more likely to be from Maura's cellphone inside the vehicle than a man smoking. After all, the bus driver did not mention anyone else being in the vehicle. IMO she fled the vehicle, walking eastbound, as another witness had noticed, and ran into foul play re. the house with the drug addict enroute. The phone call received by her boyfriend where a brief message was left sounded like she was out in the elements and feeling effects of the cold while walking. JMO.

Apart from what I mentioned about the article, it's a good article anyway. I remember reading about Maura's case in Seventeen Magazine in 2004 although I don't recall the month, that's probably where I first read of it and possibly again later in the next few years. Maybe People Magazine covered it too, I don't recall. I read that at the time as well.

I was born in the mid 1980s, so I'm a little younger than Maura would have been today, but of the same generation. I always thought her disappearence was a sad mystery that would hopefully one day be solved. And now it's soon to be 21 years. The world has changed a lot in that time, as I was reflecting recently when thinking of my own life in those days and then I saw the latest posts on here about her case. Yet it seems strange to me that 2004 was even 20 years ago..

This is correct, but he rented the car days earlier and returned it days later, and was unaccounted for most of the time in between.

There also apparently was a newspaper found at Keyes’ house in Constable printed that week, which suggests that he (or at least someone) was there during that time - although it’s not conclusive.

The Keyes podcast True Crime BS has a three episode block that explores his possible involvement if you (or anyone) is interested—season 6, episodes 8-10.

Until I heard that I didn’t think there was a chance in hell Keyes was responsible. I still don’t think he was, but I’m definitely open to it now. The newspaper thing is SUPER weird.
