NH - Seven motorcyclists dead when truck collided with them, Randolph, June 2019 *not guilty*

  • #81

In pre-trial motions, the defense successfully argued to keep jurors from hearing testimony about alleged erratic driving earlier in the day on the day of the crash. Also, jurors will not hear about a conversation Zhukovskyy allegedly had with a corrections officer in which he allegedly stated he consumed 10 bags of heroin a day.

That's not good. Seems as though the jury should at least hear about reports of him driving erratically earlier in the day.

In a shocker to many onlookers, a New Hampshire jury quickly acquitted Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, a commercial truck driver, on all charges against him in the brutal head-on collision that caused the deaths of seven motorcyclists there in 2019.

Shocking. Unbelievable. The guy was jacked up on all kinds of drugs, driving an illegally rigged truck and trailer, etc. and he's acquitted? Deport him.

Dunyadar Gasanov, 39, pled guilty in Springfield, Massachusetts to three counts of making false statements to federal investigators. The car transport company he owned, Westfield Transport, Inc., employed Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, a commercial trucker driver who was involved in 2019 crash that left seven motorcyclists dead in northern New Hampshire.

Gasanov was accused of falsifying driver logs to avoid federal road safety regulations including exceeding limits on the hours a driver can operate. He also instructed at least one employee to falsify records by deactivating logging devices in order to exceed the allowable driving hours and lied about it to federal investigators. He also claimed to federal investigators that he had met Zhukovskyy the day he was hired when, in fact, he had known him for years and was aware that Zhukovskyy had been charged with drunken driving.

[...]

Gasanov, who is set to be sentenced Nov. 21, faces five years imprisonment, one year of supervised release and a $10,000 fine on each count. His co-defendant, Dartanayan Gasanov, pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. Both were indicted in 2021.

Any idea what that status is of Zhukovskyy's deportation? Since this last article talks about ongoing arguments over his driver license, I am guessing he never was deported.

July 2024
Zhukovskyy, who came to the U.S. as a child from Ukraine and had permanent residency status, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after the 2022 verdict. A judge ordered his deportation last year, but the U.S. has paused repatriation flights to Ukraine due to the war with Russia and authorized temporary protected status for qualified Ukrainians.
