NH Tragedy: Emily Long Allegedly Kills Husband (Battling Brain Cancer) and 2 Kids in Murder-Suicide – Aug 2025”

This is just the saddest case. I pray that poor surviving child is raised with parents who are also in therapy, who can help him navigate the rough waters of realizing the story of his birth family.
I imagine he will be with one of the sets of grandparents or other family.

I could understand this tragedy a little better I think if Emily hadn't pumped so many bullets into her husband. I don't know how many? Like she hated him.

I’m not sure why there is so much confusion in this thread about the circumstances and deaths?

- Emily’s husband had uncurable brain cancer.
- He was having seizures which were getting worse.
- They have three kids, ranging from age 9 to 3.
- The family was dealing with tremendous stress.
- Emily shot her husband, two older kids and herself.
- The three year old little, was unharmed.

The above is an abbreviated description of what was happening to this family. It’s far more heartbreaking and tragic than my synopsis.

I think Emily cracked under the weight of watching her husband slowly die and the weight of providing some sense of normalcy to three kids. I don’t agree with the murders obviously, but can understand how it came to that point for her.
Would anyone say that if a man killed his terminally ill wife, and 2 of their 3 preteen children?

There’s a new article in The Boston Globe (behind a paywall) with some new info. Emily was previously suspected of stealing money from another former employer in 2016

“It was winter 2016, and police on Nantucket wanted to question Emily Hobson, a 24-year-old restaurant manager from New Hampshire, and her boyfriend.

More than $11,000 had been drained from the bank account of Nixs, a brew pub on the island where the pair had worked until that prior December. They had been fired amid suspicions about missing cash and alcohol.
Now, they were both on the other end of the world in Thailand, posting photos of their tropical adventure on Facebook. They hung out at fancy hotels in Bangkok. Caught fish in the jungle. They ate authentic dishes of tender rice noodles with fresh basil leaves.

It’s unclear if police ever got the answers they were looking for. Hobson, after returning stateside, was ultimately arraigned on multiple check forgery charges in Nantucket District Court that June. But the restaurant closed suddenly later that summer and the case was dismissed.”

Days prior to the killings, she posted on TikTok about selling her possessions on Facebook, indicating she may have been experiencing financial problems, the Globe reported.

“You can’t keep ignoring everything and hoping that it disappears," she said in an Aug. 7 video.

I guess Emily fooled alot of people, including me initially.
