she sure doesn't look too "grief-striken" (words culled from article ^^^) in that photo. She looks bored and tired.

Not quite sure what to make of this article about her getting out on bail and this statement: "Hess was not held when police stopped the car. Hours later, she was in a different borrowed car when she allegedly hit and killed the two women."

Since when did a different borrowed car enter into this whole thing? Do reporters who are right there on the scene bother to look at actual police reports? Like, what was the ID on the car she was driving at 12:45 AM? I really don't think this story is that complicated.

snips

"Blood tests for Hess were still pending Thursday, and police haven't yet released information about whether Hess was impaired or distracted during the fatal crash."

*

"Tony Naro, Hess' attorney, said in court that Hess isn't a flight risk because she has "no criminal record whatsoever" and because she didn't leave the area after Saturday's crash, even though she wasn't actually arrested or charged until Tuesday." (Not to mention that she doesn't have a driver's license and that it is unlikely any other friends will loan her their car. :floorlaugh:)

Police: Woman directly gave Darriean Hess fentanyl before deadly crash

SEABROOK — Cindy Sheppard allegedly squeezed an amount of the painkiller fentanyl onto Darriean Hess' finger in an effort to calm her down after she, an unlicensed driver, had been pulled over by Hampton police for speeding and hours before her involvement in a fatal crash, police alleged during Sheppard's probable cause hearing in Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Hess, 20, pleaded guilty to two counts each of manslaughter and second-degree assault in the deaths of Pamela Wells, 60, of Hamilton, Massachusetts, and Elise Bouchard, 52, of Danvers, Massachusetts. Heigh, of Danvers, was injured, along with Uwe Yhmeyer, 60, of Essex, Massachusetts...

Hess was sentenced in Rockingham County Superior Court to 15 to 40 years in prison, with an additional seven to 14 years suspended. Other than answering the judge's questions in a low, nearly inaudible voice, Hess didn't speak at the hearing and only glanced at her victims' family members who gave emotional statements.
