Nicholas Marion, age 38, went missing after leaving a friend’s home in Youbou on Sunday morning at around 6:30 am. Police said he is not familiar with the area, as he was just visiting for the long weekend. The last confirmed sighting of Marion was July 1.
His wife, Dory Marion, said he left without a cellphone, wallet or jacket.
Nicholas is originally from Orlando.

It's kind of remote so probably not any need for cell phone (no service?) or wallet (no stores?) and maybe warm enough to not need a jacket.

Well, I'm not going to speculate, because it's against site rules, but my initial concern with him going for a walk without bringing his personal items is that he might have been going through something, and perhaps feeling he wouldn't "need them".

Found these details from another article, which may confirm my concerns:
Dory says Nicholas wasn’t quite acting like himself. His mother had recently died, and he didn’t want to socialize.

He went for a walk on the morning of June 30, leaving his friend’s home Youbou Road.

Nicholas was spotted four more times that same day in a number of locations, and was last seen the next day on July 1 at the Maple Grove campsite sitting on a beach.

The most disconcerting detail about this, to me, is that he left without his jacket, wallet, and cellphone. Three things almost no one would leave the house without.

well it's summer so the jacket doesn't concern me and he doesn't really need a wallet if he's just going for a walk but the cellphone bothers me - everybody usually has their phones with them

"I've been trying to do my best," said Dory Marion on July 16, more than two weeks after the last confirmed sighting of her husband Nicholas (Nick) Marion, 38. He left the house they were staying at wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and black shoes.

"Nick just sat up in bed after tossing and turning all night and said 'I’m gonna go for a walk', put his shoes on and walked out the door," Marion said.
The wife of a man who vanished without a trace more than three weeks ago while visiting Youbou is not giving up hope that her husband will be found safe.

Update April 2025:
Original FB group to find Nicholas Marion last post was Sep 7, 2024. Nick’s family continued to call RCMP with tips and questions about any investigation, but RCMP doesn’t ever disclose any investigation it does, even to families of victims. The Marions were told the case was going to be reviewed and transferred to someone else, but to no avail. After waiting for months and months with RCMP avoiding communication, the Marions were tired of waiting and took action into their own hands. They have wanted Nick’s disappearance and the events leading up to that day investigated more thoroughly, and this includes asking Nick’s wife Dory once more to come in for an official account of the disappearance of her husband. The Marions claim they were told by RCMP that despite them calling and asking multiple times, Dory declined and had stopped taking their calls. Dory had not been accused by the Marions of any wrong doing, they simply want her account to be checked out by police and corroborated by a proper investigation. The Marions say that Dory stopped taking their calls after she found out they had talked to a private investigator at which point Dory threatened to have the PI arrested. She refused any further communication attempted by the Marion family.

The Marions claim that Dory was giving false or misleading statements to the police from the moment they arrived in Canada from Florida, which was the second day of his disappearance. It is alleged that Dory gave false statements with regards to information about his phone, the nature of his relationship with his family in the US, the nature of his relationship with Dory’s son Sebastian, if the funds raised through a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 went towards helping find their son when all services were volunteered, including lodging and posters/flyers, and whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved. The Marions also take issue with the way Nick’s DNA was collected to compare with any DNA found on potential evidence (it was collected and turned in by stepson Sebastian, who is reported to have not had a good relationship with Nicholas, and Carl Marion alleges that Sebastian said to him while Carl was in Canada, “your son is dead in the woods somewhere, get over it”). A shirt was found by search and rescue in the initial days of the ground search that was later confirmed to match the DNA sample turned in by Sebastian, but Nick’s family in the US believe that the shirt must not be Nick’s because it was a medium and Nick wears a large. At the time Dory is alleged to not think it was Nick’s either. Dory claims Nick was struggling mentally and not eating and had lost a lot of weight as a result, 40 lbs, in the months following the death of his mother at the beginning of March. However, video footage of Nick sent by Dory a month before he vanished shows Nick looking his normal size and weight, whistling as he walks out of a cafe. The Marions also say that Dory has altered Nick’s social media pages, restricting their access to his fb page, and altering posts on both his Facebook and Instagram accounts, including removing the last photos taken with his mother when she came to see him one last time before after deciding to forgo cancer treatment. RCMP never searched the trailer Nick and Dory stayed at in Youbou, their vehicle, or their residence in Victoria.

A separate fb group to help in locating Nicholas has since been started by Nick’s sister C.K. Marion and her wife Amanda, with the help of two volunteers. You can join the page at the link below. There were also two podcasts thus far to cover the story, each with two parts. The links to those will be included below as well. It appears there was some activity in the original fb group as a result. During the time of the active search by Dory and law enforcement, the group was run by RL Dakin (she regularly volunteers to run search pages for missing persons and is reputed to not have any other connections to Dory, Nick, or their friends and family) and Dory’s brother Jade, with CK as an admin as well. CK says she stopped participating in the group when the emotional toll of being ignored and shut down multiple times when she voiced what she saw as negligence in the investigation of her brother’s disappearance became too much. When members of Dakin’s group started messaging the admin chat about the activity on the Marions subsequent fb page, CK was still a member of the chat, but was blocked quickly upon viewing the messages. What she did see however, was contempt from RL Dakin for how the Marions go about their own search efforts as well as for calls for Dory to make an official account to RCMP by the Marions, and responses from Dory and her brother Jade saying they did not want to be involved in the original search page for Nick, but that Dakin was free to keep it running if she chose to. It appears that Dakin is the sole person running that page now.

Since starting the new fb group to find Nick, some new information has come to light. Dory announced she had to move out of the house she shared with Nick on Aug 17, one month and 17 days after it’s alleged that he didn’t come back from a walk. It was also announced by the owner of the trailer Nick and Dory stayed at that herself and Dory were not good friends and had only worked together in the past, last having really spoken in about 2019. The Marions say they have received information from people involved in Nick’s life about the validity of Dory’s account of their lives before Nick’s disappearance as well as alleged behavior by Dory during and after that the Marions find questionable. You can email the Marions with any questions or tips at the following email address listen in their FB group linked below. The Marions strongly encourage anyone with information to report it to RCMP and/or email it to the address on the search group page.

RL Dakin is notorious for stirring up carp on Missing Persons Pages. Most people abandon the page within days bc it just gets nutty. I am a bit surprised RL is still active on fb, thought they'd been banned by now. JMO of course.

Omg thank you for saying that!! Never heard of that person before, comes across as a bit of a nut..
