My grandmother was absolutely determined to spend every penny herself and not leave any money to anyone. She did manage it, leaving no debts or money to anyone. There were some benefits, there were no family fights about her money.

The Love of money is the root of all evil. It sounds as if she loves her money more than her children. We are commanded to leave our children an inheritence, something of value. It doesn't have to be money.

Maybe she'll be the first to learn how to take it with her!

haha I was thinking the same thing txsvicki!! I don't even know who this lady is I never heard of her before. If I was filthy rich you bet your butt I would leave my kids a great fortune! I would only have one stipulation though and that would be that they have to finish college before inheriting the big monies! (college,rent,foods would be paid )

Floh, I spent all of last night watching Youtube's of his shows with headphones on (so as to not bother hubby watching TV). When he went to sleep he said jokingly please don't laugh so loud now, mkay?

Seems to me that it should be a private family issue..

It does not really matter since the article states that her husband does not agree with her on this and he is worth much more then she is.

One thing great about how I was raised was how my family treated money. My mom is one of seven children, and I guess this had been passed through generations, because it was just a natural thing with them and all of us. Whoever had the money to spare would help out whoever didn't have any at that moment. It's hard to describe so I'll give an example.
My mom's oldest sister and her husband needed to move to a different house because if husband's MS getting worse. They were on the waiting list for quite a while and out of the blue were offered a suitable house. They didn't really have enough money to comfortably move (new carpet and such), so my grandma gave them money for it. Then shortly after, also out of the blue, my grandma gets the appartment in the retirement home that she'd been wanting.

Now she didn't have enough money to comfortably move. Now my dad's business is doing quite well, so my parents gave my grandma money for it. They didn't realize until later that they'd basically come full circle, since my grandma has helped them out financially in the past, too. My parents give us some money every once in a while, too. She always says that my inheritance won't be big, but she'd rather we get it now so they can watch us enjoy it. Same thing my grandparents always said.
We are a very drama-less family, so no doubt that is a big part of why this works, but I love it... not because of the money, but to me it shows we all care about eachother and we just share life. Nobody sits back and relies on the other, but if you need help (also with other things, like the actually moving house part, lol), they're there. I love my family. :blowkiss:

You have a wise mama. Your family sounds like they have a higher understanding. If your not willing to help your own family, how can you begin to even give to another?

I can see her wanting to have her children develop a strong work ethnic. However, stating to the press that she isn't going to leave them a penny? IMO she wasn't thinking about the children when making this statement. I think the woman is a witch!

Gosh, that's horrible if she wouldn't see them through their education. She sounds like the type of person who hires a nanny from the point the children are born until they are 18, having little emotional involvement in their lives.

But isn't Ms Lawson correct in advocating that we should all make our own way? Theoretically, yes. Practically, not so easy. Absolute opposition to passing on wealth tends to be the preserve of socialists on the one hand and the very well-off and socially super-confident on the other. Bill Gates is another example of this spartan entrepreneurial breed.
