The police are asking for the public's help in solving this crime. So, even though this uid is identified, I'm wondering if the thread should stay open & be moved somewhere? Idk...

You have got to be freaking kidding me!

Check It Out...

Molly goes missing in April 2012. This uid gal was found June 2012. Is there a reason DNA databases weren't cross checked with arrests from the Tri-state area? Excuse me but the pd & whomever was running this case screwed up big time! Wouldn't they already have this chick's DNA on file?

That's crazy that reproduction like MATCHES the decedent with the exception of hair and eye color. Makes her look way older.

Same link as above, I'm still wondering why police didnt have her DNA already on file considering she was arrested & struggled w/ crack & heroin..?

On Monday, a Falls Township officer assigned to the case after Lynch was reported missing met with her family. They hadn't spoken for nearly a year. The officer wanted a sample of her DNA. Dee Lynch gave him her daughter's blue blanket, the one she had snuggled in as an infant and wrapped herself in even as an adult when she sucked her thumb.

On Wednesday, after Burlington County authorities, working with Falls Township police, announced they had positively identified Molly Lynch from remains discovered on a wooded trail in Pemberton Township in June, her mother still struggled.

Snipped:
Molly Lynch struggled mostly with crack cocaine and heroin, her mother said.

But last March, she completed a 28-day stay at an inpatient rehab center, her mother said. She was home for two weeks. Then she met a boy at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

"That was the beginning of her downfall," said Lynch, 51, of Levittown.

In April, the family reported Molly missing to Falls Township police as well as Philadelphia police.

"I kind of lost it and I was like 'no, no, no, no,' I couldn't even look at them," Dee Lynch, Molly's mother, said. Dee says her daughter was a good person, but she suffered from drug addiction. They say she was last seen in the Kensington section of Philadelpha.

According to NAMUS her DNA was submitted but the tests were not complete. DNA could not have been cross checked.

It can take months if not years to get valid DNA data for testing into CODIS or even the state lab in NJ.

Also Molly Lynch was not in NAMUS as a missing person.

It was only after the artist sketch was published did the leads come in.

Thanks joeytes. Re the DNA crosscheck - I was actually referring to a criminal database. Wouldn't they have her DNA on file from her past arrests & drug history? So I was thinking if le submitted Jane Doe's DNA to a criminal databank, then wouldn't they automatically check the Tri-state area for matches? I'm confused, thought that's how it worked.

What I should have said was the UID's DNA was collected, but not complete. It was not ready to be compared to anyone. Sorry for the confusion.

As far as how things work DNA is compared in CODIS. Unidentified Persons with Missing Persons in NAMUS if they are entered and available. I am not aware of any criminal DNA database nor do I believe it possibly can be checked.

Had she had fingerprints, that would have been checked first. Evidently the body was too decomposed for a fingerprint check.

The US started doing this some years ago on sex crimes. I thought it was actually being done across the board now involving drug crimes bc of blood infections being spread & made into larger crimes?

Idk, I seriously don't know. I personally think everybody's DNA should be on file.

No crime was committed. You have to compare the unidentified with the missing, not with criminals or with arrest records. Had fingerprints been available those in charge of this case would have checked police records around the country and worked from there to see if there was a possible match.

It was only when Molly Lynch's blue blanket containing her DNA was compared with the DNA of the UID was there a DNA match and the UID was identified as Molly Lynch. This comparison was done locally not through NAMUS.

Had Molly Lynch been reported as missing in Namus with a complete DNA profile in CODIS and the UID's DNA was complete and uploaded to CODIS, there most likely would have been a cold hit and this case would have been solved.

No need to gather everyone's DNA, that can open up a can of worms and that could be a subject of another debate some place else.

Thank you joeytes for explaining everything to me. You're right & I truly wish people would utilize NAMUS as soon as they report their loved one missing.

Also, in most states, you don't have to submit DNA unless you're convicted of sex crimes or other serious felonies. Just being charged with something does not get your DNA into any government databases.

I'm so glad to see she's been identified.
