And would he feel safe around his co-workers? I wonder how well he was liked at work? Was he easygoing and friendly? Was he shy and did he keep to himself?

Someone who worked with him previously stated that he was quiet, he did his job but he was a liar and manipulative. Two other people who worked with him previously said he was quiet.

Even without knowing the exact layout of her hallway, door, stairs, etc., it's not that hard to imagine that he could gotten there before her (which implies at a minimum a friendship in which he knew at least a bit in advance that she was going home for lunch that day) and lurked/hidden in a stairwell or around a corner until she got there and when she was getting her keys out or opening her door, he either pounced or snuck up behind her (perhaps with a knife in her back?) and forced her inside once the door was open.
The stairwell is open to all the apartments and he wouldn’t have been able to hide there He could have sat in the parking lot waiting for her to come home.

Hopefully, we will find out additional information today as he is due back in court for his detention hearing.
There was news that he was ordered to remain in jail but I couldn’t see the full article because I don’t subscribe.

No other additional info or details about the hearing and crime in the article (at least, not yet):

Plainsboro murder: Man accused of woman's stabbing death ordered to remain in jail

PLAINSBORO – The man accused of the stabbing death of a 26-year-old township woman has been ordered to remain in jail.

Kenneth Saal, 30, of Lindenwold, Camden County, was ordered to remain detained in jail on Friday by Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Michael Toto.

Saal previously appeared before Judge Joseph Paone before the hearing was adjourned at the request of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office to allow the defense to review more discovery.

Although someone saw her come home for lunch--if he had followed her one would think he would have been noticed unless he was far behind, etc. He is not exactly a small man.

I am awaiting further information. Some articles say he was waiting inside and at least one other I read said he followed her home or so I thought. I wish media could get things straight sometimes (well often I wish that in almost every case :) )

Plainsboro murder: Man accused of woman's stabbing death ordered to remain in jail

Aug 30, 2019

PLAINSBORO – The man accused of the stabbing death of a 26-year-old township woman has been ordered to remain in jail.

Kenneth Saal, 30, of Lindenwold, Camden County, was ordered to remain detained in jail on Friday by Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Michael Toto.

Saal previously appeared before Judge Joseph Paone before the hearing was adjourned at the request of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office to allow the defense to review more discovery.

[...]

An investigation determined that on June 10, Saal — Byington's coworker at a marketing firm — killed the 26-year-old in her apartment when she went home for lunch, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

[...]

A police dash cam recording also showed a vehicle matching Saab’s traveling in Plainsboro, which is about six miles from Engine’s office in West Windsor, Mercer County, about 2 p.m. on June 10.

The father of Kenneth Saal, accused of murdering a coworker in her Plainsboro apartment, spoke in Middlesex County court. He defended his son’s statement that he was making repairs to his car at the time Carolyn Byington was killed.

Saal’s attorney played an interview Saal gave to police on June 19, nine days after Byington was killed.

KS states he was working on his car in a park setting near a golf course during lunch -- may have eaten at Wendy's (park near Canal Pointe; 5-10 minutes away from building per KS).

KS dad states KS has working knowledge of auto mechanics as dad worked in auto repair business for 30 years. KS was correcting a sound problem with his Honda Accord. They would text constantly about auto fixes.

A park setting near a golf course (The Meadows at Middlesex Golf Course) could be Morris Davison Park in Plainsboro, NJ next to Hunters Glen Apartments where Carolyn lived.

KS said "park area" he worked on his car was near Canal Pointe.

Didn't KS get a speeding ticket on June 19? I may be wrong.

The only Wendy’s is on Route 1, about 4-5 miles from Carolyn’s apartment. Wendy’s should have cameras. Canal point is a condo complex by Wendy’s and close to where they worked. I could be wrong but I’m not familiar with a golf course over there.

There is a park, country club & golf academy in that area & it’s closer to where he worked. But police spotted his car in Plainsboro that day.

Yes he’d did, but if my memory serves me correctly it was in Hamilton not in Princeton.

I wonder if they have text messages between Kenneth and his Dad. Even if they do, he could have texted him before or after she was killed.

There’s Mercer Oaks golf course which is on the other side of Route 1 off of Quakerbridge Rd by Mercer County Park but there isn’t a Wendy’s over there.

KS describes the parking area at park where he works on his car with familiarity. However, I don't believe he was at that spot on the date he alleged killed Carolyn, and probably one of many lies that helped get him arrested.

These were video statements he made to LE nine days after CB was killed that were played in court today.
