NJ- Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau, 31, & brother, Matthew, 29, ret. pro. hockey player, hit & killed by DUI driver, 29/8/24

This guy needs the max sentence. What was he in such a hurry he had to pass a car? So he could go home? Makes zero sense.

He needs 20 years of anger management and substance abuse treatment classes in prison.

Sean M. Higgins, 44, of Pilesgrove Township, was indicted Wednesday on two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, two counts of second-degree reckless vehicular homicide, second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident and fourth-degree tampering with physical evidence in the deaths of Gaudreau, 31, and Matthew R. Gaudreau,

He rejected an offer by the prosecution that would have given him 35 years. I don't think he will do any better by going to trial. 35 year sentence in prison was a gift.

He was driving while drunk, over the legal limit. I see that the defense is trying to bring up being a "veteran", and he talked to his mother, and she upset him.

So, he had to drink and drive, and not follow rules of the road? Never pass on the right side.

From the article, SH “had a history of road rage and was impaired that day after drinking five or six beers. He said he had been driving around for two hours, sometimes talking by phone with a friend, after an upsetting conversation with his mother.”

So, because he was upset and had a history of emotionally driving his car recklessly, he used his car to murder the brothers. He has shown a pattern of doing this, it was not a once-off. I hope he gets a long sentence. Jmo

I know! What does he think will be any better if he goes to trial? The victims are very sympathetic, the wives with their children who are fatherless now. Families destroyed.

They were riding bikes on a road, in their neighborhood. I don't see a defense of blaming the victims going anywhere.

The defendant's wife wouldn't even vouch for him.

I have faith that he will receive a guilty verdict on both counts AND that the sentence will be consecutive and longer than that original plea offer. I am confident that there is nothing he can produce to mitigate that he was driving aggressively while drunk. Here's to many more years than the 35 offered.
