I’m curious to know what precipitated all of this. What did it begin as?

It definitely doesn’t appear to me that it started as some sort of mass shooting, but devolved into something close to that.

IDK how accurate, but Fox reported earlier that an undercover officer had been shot at nearby cemetery. The perps ran from cemetery, through neighborhood and into the deli.

Yeah, the undercover officer at the cemetery would seem to indicate that law enforcement was prepared for something.

Perhaps there was a funeral going on, and this was gang related. We’ll see.

FWIW: I’ve been listening to the scanner for over 2 hours and I’m curious to how it all began as well.

Ok, maybe some clarity. This makes sense.

Authorities say the incident started at Bay View Cemetery just after noon, with an officer wounded in the shoulder, and was possibly related to a drug deal gone bad.

Up to two suspects then fled to the area of JC Kosher Supermarket on Martin Luther King Drive, where they continued firing at responding officers and possibly others.

Police retreated and took up defensive positions, and hundreds of officers, SWAT units, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives descended on the scene.

Sky news reporting they have stormed the store. Several dead. They were not sure if it was just shooters and/ or folks who happened to be in the store.Will get clarification soon-per sky news

One police officer was killed and two others were shot during what a law enforcement source described as an "ambush" active shooter situation at a bodega in Jersey City Tuesday, the Hudson County prosecutor said.

One civilian was also shot. That person, along with the two wounded officers, are expected to survive, officials said. The circumstances of the hours-long shootout remain uncertain and the situation, which forced every public school in Jersey City into lockdown mode, is still highly fluid.

This would be an abundance of caution. If this was a drug deal gone bad, obviously there wouldn’t be a bomb.

It’s a Jewish deli, so terrorism would be on their radar. That doesn’t appear to be the case though.

ABC7 News NYC livefeed - the theory is that an undercover officer was involved in a drug deal gone bad, perhaps shot in head at cemetary? Then the suspects fled to the bodega. Only 2 suspects involved who are "neutralized", unknown number of dead inside market.

The 4:00PM News is about to start with a full report.

ABC confirming now the working theory that this began as undercover officers and suspects were at cemetery when drug deal went south very quickly and shots were fired at officer.

Suspects ran to UHaul and eventually ran into Deli. Confirmed only 2x suspects.
