NJ - Family Day At Sex Offender Prison Didn't Work Out Well

  • #21
:furious::banghead::furious::banghead:Avenel. That's our local sex offender "jail"/diagnostic center.

They have a "Family Day" ain't that swell? A 9 year old girl was assaulted while attending the event. This was last month and they just now come out with this news. The offender who has his name listed at link (I'm not even bothering to write it) faces disciplinary action. Ohhhhhhhh, what are they going to do? Put him in jail?

116 kids attended the event. 210 inmates mingled in the carnival type atmosphere. They were really on their toes because they had 30 officers supervise.:banghead: First off do ya need to be a rocket scientist to know these people are tempted? Secondly you put 30 lousey guards out there to watch over this fiasco?

Why not just let them all out? Close Avenel. Hand these kids to the wolves. :furious::furious::furious:

Who came up with that brilliant idea?:loser:
This tops the list of STUPID THINGS. Sheesh, my goldfish would have known that wasn't a good idea.:loser:

I finally remembered why the name of this center rang a bell. I recently started a thread on former Dr. James Krivacska of NJ (former as in license yanked). He was a child psychologist at a school for special needs children. He had a nasty habit of calling young cognitively and developmentally disabled boys into his office and having them hang their coats over the door window for privacy while he molested and assaulted them.

As far as I know, he has no children of his own to visit him. Unbelievably he is still writing scholarly articles about sex education programs from prison. He believes the "good touch, bad touch" curriculum is short sighted.

So, I'm hopeful that if anyone showed up with their young teen special needs boys, Jim's hands were carefully watched. He was fast. They all are.

Here's an open question to everybody. When you are around a group of children and teens, just how often do you "helpfully" guide them by their shoulders or accidently brush against a young girl's breast?

Just what I thought.

My AA confession:
Raises hand..lowers head ....sighs...

My name is Angel it was 2 hours sence my last drink, thank God i'm here cause I really need one!

To think that I almost made a mistake and went to my Anger Mangement Class but this article pissed me off so I came here instead:angel:

I agree with all of you, so where do we write??

Thank you for making this horrendous situation a little lighter, Angel.

Write? That would be to Avenel I would think and we see how they work.

The thing that got me is they allowed these kids go get water ice with a sex offender.

Sure, Sally and Janey you can go with the sex offender who has been locked up with no contact with kids for X amount of time to get a water ice.

Ya know one would have to think the mom of these kids was doing her own thing with whoever she was visiting when she allowed these kids to go with this guy.

Plus like what more can they do to him? He's already in prison. Oh I know send him to the psycologist in my other thread and he can have sex with her. That works.

O/T but not. Sorry for the double post. I just have to get this off my chest.

Years ago my ex and I had our DD at a function that was connected to an organization she was in for kids. It was police based. It was like a little faire kind of thing and the kids ran a stand selling little trinkets they made.

I didn't leave that stand. I didn't take my eyes off my child or the other kids at that stand. My ex was right by talking to a police officer who was attending (who he grew up with) and he motioned to me and says "See she's paranoid. She won't let these kids breathe. She thinks sex offenders are everywhere". Without missing a beat his friend goes "Avenel is full of them. She's right".

Set his sorry tail back some. I'd never heard of Avenel until that day. Obviously it is full of them. I felt like picking on my ex husband tonight anyway.

Carnival atmosphere? I guess Avenel thought they'd have Family Day and made it a Carnival to call that aspect "Job Training" ? Two birds with one stone?

This may be a little OT, but:

My DH is a CO at the only prison in Missouri to carry out executions... They aren't a level 5, but they still have some really bad dudes...

They have a family day there, too... But, not for the offenders... For the families of the CO's. I have to admitt I was a little creeped out. They want people to bring thier spouses and kids so that they can see what a real prison is like.

Now, I don't really care that the offenders are supposed to be locked down while the event is taking place. Whay would someone EVER intentionally bring their kids into close quarters with dangerous people???

...and it was, supposedly, a very party-like event. They had events for kids and picnics, etc...

All it takes is one second and things could have gone VERY wrong.

Needless to say, we didn't go.

I wouldn't have either!

My kid can see the inside of a prison on tv !

And what, if anything, was going through the minds of the moms as they packed the kids into the car to go spend the day with..A BUNCH OF SEX OFFENDERS???

That was exactly my first thought! How can that many parents be in such a raging state of denial and/or stupidity??

The sheer number of kids that were there is staggering, when you think of the fact that someone had to make the conscious decision to bring them there.

Personally I am sick of any prisoners having any events with any children........
These creeps hae to many rights and bleeding hearts saying they are rehabilitated now..........NEVER!!

Has anyone considered what would have happened if someone would have freaked out or possibly seen what this man did to the child? What if he would have been confronted right on the spot? There would have been a sudden escalation. There very well could have been a full out riot. Thirty guards for over 200 inmates would not have been nearly enough to safely evacuate over 100 children and their families.

Let's hope a lesson was learned.

This was a bad idea on so many levels that it is hard to count. I can't believe this was approved up through the ranks. Does not one of them have any sense at all? Where is the concern for the safety of these children they have so willingly exposed to predators? It completely blows my mind. I am really, really angry over this.

Huh. I hadn't linked this prisoner fiasco to the CO's family day at the prison. My dad was a CO-1 at a state correctional facility while I was growing up and they had a yearly family day w/ tours. It was/is a maximum security facility and probably 95% of the inmates were locked up while we were there. We only went once--when I was about 8. Looking back, taking us (brother 5) wasn't the wisest choice my parents ever made. :)
On the other hand, we did visit w/ several inmates over the years who were really nice guys. One was from Philly and rarely got to see his familiy. He was in for murder--he killed a guy who threatened his four-year-old daughter w/ a butcher knife and got life. He died in prison--really nice man. When they cleaned out his cell, he had kept all of the home-made cards/notes we'd sent him as kids.
To clarify though, having this type of insanity in the yard w/ SO and children is F-U NUTS!

Bumping this to see if Avenel has any family gatherings with kids.

So much for the ones that keep writing on WS when a sexual offender gets sentenced to jail: “He’ll get what’s coming to him”. Yep, never heard of many getting killed in jail and they get to have a Carnival!!!! We are all getting crazier by the minute if we are ready to accept that this is o.k.

Absolutely agree, Frannie. Here and there it hits the news if a "sensationalized" pedophile gets harmed in prison. It's prison and alot of people get harmed.

Just was looking back at old threads and wanted to check on this.

Well, I'm trying to even see if children are permitted during visitation, but having a difficult time. At Avenel that is. Finding protocol, but nothing about children. This "facility" is for violent sex offenders not just pedophiles so??????

Crazy train it is!
