Police found the girl after a security guard called them to the donut shop on southbound Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4.

She told them that she'd been sexually assaulted on the facility's bus while passing through Wood-Ridge moments earlier, Wood-Ridge Police Chief Michael O’Donnell said.

The driver -- identified as Clarence K. Hedgeman, 41, of Woodland Park -- apparently made her kiss him and touch his penis, investigators said.

On Thursday, May 4, 2023, officers from the Wood-Ridge Police Department and the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department received a report regarding an alleged criminal sexual contact involving a juvenile. It was reported that the suspect made contact with the juvenile on his bus that led to the criminal sexual contact that eventually occurred while passing through Wood-Ridge. An investigation by the Wood-Ridge Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutors Office Special Victims Unit found that Hedgeman engaged in criminal sexual contact with the juvenile.

As a result of the investigation, Hedgeman was arrested and charged with one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Hedgeman was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a court date.

Excellent. So glad the 16 y/o reported it quickly. Sometimes teens are reluctant to report it.
