Officers were called to Elmer Street near Church Street around 12:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired and found the family of the victim rushing the girl to Inspira Health Center Bridgeton, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police learned someone fired several shots from the area of Elmer and Walnut streets, striking several vehicles on Elmer and the victim's home. It's not clear how many shooters were involved.
The fatal shot entered the rear wall of the Church Street house were the victim lived.
