FREEHOLD – An ex-convict who turned up driving his housemate’s car after she mysteriously vanished following a devastating fire at her expansive rental home frequently interrupted a hearing today at which a judge ordered him held without bail to face trial.

At the onset of the hearing before Superior Judge Paul X. Escandon, Ronald Teschner protested the fact that news media were present and said he had been falsely accused of being a sex offender.

Then, when Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Joseph Cummings said shotguns and jewelry belonging to his housemates were found in the vehicle he was driving when he was arrested Sept. 13, Teschner said it was costume jewelry.

Teschner also blurted out that he didn’t know he was charged with assaulting an officer who arrested him in Paterson.

"Well, now you know,'' Escandon told him.

Teschner took exception to Cummings' comment about his demeanor.

N.J. man ordered held in jail as search for woman missing after massive house fire continues
As authorities continue to search for a woman who went missing Sept. 12 after the Ocean Township residence she was renting with her family was destroyed in a blaze, the man authorities say was caught driving her Jeep the next day with her jewelry and two shotguns in the vehicle was ordered held Monday pending trial on multiple charges.

[...]

“He has a record spanning 30 years,” Cummings said. “The only reason he doesn’t have more convictions than he does is probably because a lot of his adult life was spent in prison. He is someone who undoubtedly poses a danger to the community.”

[...]

There were no updates on the search for Terrulli as of Monday, the prosecutor’s office said. In the days following the fire, K9s and officers were searching the grounds.

The 65-year-old woman owned a construction company, her family said.

He is out of control! How does one not remember assaulting a police officer. An offensive record that expands over 30 years! Where is JT?

Updated at 3:48 pm. I'm not sure if this info was previously reported, but it looks like there was more to their relationship.

"J.T. was an on-again, off-again girlfriend of the defendant," Cummnings said, after describing Teschner's long criminal history and pointing out that one of his convictions involved domestic violence.

Yes, it was there earlier and I was surprised to read that.

I don't mean any offense to JT but I can't imagine what in the world she saw in this guy. She's a successful businesswoman, kind, looks after her mother, cares for all those cats... Wonder what she and RT had in common if anything? They just seem like a strange pair to me... MOO

Deal Lake mystery: Why were investigators searching its waters Wednesday?
A search and recovery operation appeared to be underway Wednesday in a branch of the Deal Lake along Bridlemere Avenue.

[...]

PL, 65, of Stonington, Connecticut, was babysitting her grandson, while seated on a porch overlooking Bridlemere and Buttermere avenues. Ludwig said she saw about eight people in black polo shirts and khaki pants — most of them carrying visible sidearms — looking through brush at the edge of the water and out in a dinghy on the lake about noon. One of the individuals even waded into the lake itself.

[...]

Christopher Swendeman, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, declined to say whether the operation was related to the disappearance of Jacqueline Terrulli, 65. Terrulli vanished after a massive three-alarm fire on Sept. 12 that destroyed the $1.7 million rental home on Wickapecko Drive she shared with several housemates in Ocean Township.

Ocean fire: Neighbor reported seeing two cars, open garage door the morning of the blaze
[...]

A man who lived across the street from the fire at 86 Wickapecko Drive, called 911 about 7:32 a.m. after he saw flames and smoke pouring out of the nearly 6,000 square foot home, he told a 911 dispatcher.

"There's cars in the driveway. I don't know if anybody's home," he told a dispatcher, according to a recording of the call obtained by the Asbury Park Press through a public records request. You can hear the full recording in the video at the top of this story.

Later, he reported seeing two cars in the driveway and told the dispatcher that the garage door of the home was open.

[...]

Police later reported finding Teschner's Chevy Astrovan parked in the driveway of the Wickapecko Drive home, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in support of Teschner's arrest. The other vehicle belonged to another family member, according to authorities.

[...]

The caller, whose name was redacted from a recording of the call given to the Press, said he first saw the fire as he was pulling out of his driveway. The blaze was spreading and the windows of the home were beginning to blow out while he was on the phone, he said.

[...]

A judge ordered Teschner to remain in jail to await trial at a hearing Sept. 23. A public defender representing Teschner said at the hearing that his client had no knowledge of the items in the Jeep that belonged to his housemates, which authorities say included two shotguns, gold and silver earrings and a rhinestone bracelet.

Despite a massive search led by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Terrulli remains missing.

There were two vehicles in the driveway; Teschner's Astrovan and a vehicle that belongs to another family member.

Teschner was driving Jackie's Jeep when he was arrested in Paterson.

Prosecutor: Whereabouts of woman who went missing after fire ‘remains a mystery’ (with clip)

Oct 03, 2019

"...Police say that after the fire, only Terrulli and Teschner were unaccounted for. Teschner was found the next day, allegedly driving Terrulli’s 2019 Jeep Cherokee. Police say that they found Terrulli’s jewelry and some shotguns inside the car with Teschner.

Teschner is facing weapons charges and charges of receiving stolen property and will remain in jail until trial.

Authorities have not said if they believe if Teschner had anything to do with Terrulli’s disappearance. But the missing woman’s family says that they fear the worst. Family members have told News 12 New Jersey that Terrulli was attempting to kick Teschner out of the home prior to the fire.

Terrulli has remained missing – leading to a large search effort. Police divers were seen searching a lake near Terrulli’s home last week looking for evidence linked to her disappearance...."

OCEAN TOWNSHIP - The family of the woman who went missing on Sept. 12 after her home was destroyed in a fire has hired a lawyer and is offering a cash reward for any information about the woman's disappearance.

Now, the family has hired Jeff Henninger, a lawyer with experience in missing persons cases, and is offering a $10,000 reward — $5,000 from the family, $5,000 from Crimestoppers — to any one with information about the disappearance.

"Wherever she is she is there involuntarily, " Henninger said. "She is not there because she wants to be there. She left everything behind. She is the rock of the family, she would not have left them behind."
