  • #281
Statement from Clark Police Department Alan Scherb:

"The Clark Police Department is pleased to announce that at approximately 4:30 p.m. on October 2, 2012 Kara Alongi was found safe and unharmed. She was discovered by troopers with the New Jersey State Police walking along the side of the Turnpike near Exit 1. As dictated by protocol she was taken to a local hospital in South Jersey for an evaluation. Her family was notified shortly after she was found and they were reunited at the hospital yesterday evening. A detective from the Clark Police Department also responded to the hospital as a standard part of a missing juvenile investigation.

Kara was transferred to a north Jersey hospital overnight for additional evaluations and was released a short time later and returned home early this morning. The investigation by the Clark Police Department remains active and detectives will seek to determine the teen's whereabouts and methods of transportation over the last 48 hours. Additional information will be released as it becomes available."

I suspect it might be a couple of days at least before any additional information comes out unless Kara takes to twitter in order to explain herself.

  • #283
Well at least she's been found safe..

  • #284
Glad she is safe. I hope she gets the help she needs.

Wow, walking on the turnpike, pretty much in Delaware. A long way away from a train ticket to Penn Station. Clearly, this girl needs help, and hoax or not, she needs support from her family and professional services.

  • #286
Probably true! they probably just didn't report it until she was evaluated and back with family..

Anxious to find out the truth.

LOL dont hold your breath!

agree completely. and as you know, no one 'walks' the nj turnpike. cars are going 85 at a clip, even though it's patrolled. so was she attempting to hitchhike? or did she "want" to be found???

I think she hitched a ride most of the way and was found before she got another ride...
If she wanted to be found she would have been going toward home not away from home.
Lucky girl the next person to pick her up could have been her last ride, you never know....

no, that's why i put "want" in quotes. meaning, was this a subconscious attention-seeking action? it's illegal to loiter or walk along the nj turnpike. not to mention extremely dangerous...

also, a comment from the star-ledger reporter in response to readers' questioning why, this morning, the report was that she was still missing...

"Len Melisurgo/ The Star-LedgerGood questions. Just to clarify: Our reporters last night were told by police, other public officials and the teen's family that Kara was still missing. Also, this morning, Clark police reported no new developments in the case. We were reporting the information that was available to us."

Why were the police and her family hiding the fact that she had been found?? :waitasec:

  • #291
to kara and her parents.. before you speak to anyone please consult an attorney.

  • #292
So glad and relieved she was found safe and now hope she AND the parents get some counseling...and required community service. Having her computer and phone pass word protected...and not known by her parents is a big clue about how "in touch" they were in this teen's life. They both need it. JMO

I would presume so that she could first go through the process she needed to go through.. such as being taken to the hospital for examination, probably asked some questions.. reunite with family and give them the night of privacy without interruption..

The moment the news broke.. reporters have been calling and knocking on their door.. I've read a few articles now where they report that they called and got hung up on or knocked and no answer.. that's got to be annoying.. it certainly would interrupt/disrupt a family conversation about a very serious event.

That's my thought.. they need some time to sort it out internally... oh and it says according to the Clark news site that she was found yesterday but only returned home today.

You can only imagine if their number is in the phone book .. the twitter folks would be going nuts calling ( if they aren't already )

Well, I couldn't say much in the Ivy Merck case without everyone jumping all over me, but I'm going to say it here. We won't get any answers about this girl. We never do! I guarantee you they will play the sympathy card like they did with Ivy, and ask to please respect her and the family's privacy, blah blah blah. The poor girl has issues that need to be worked out, they'll say.

Seriously, if these people want privacy, they shouldn't do these things in the first place!!! It is beyond WRONG, and they don't deserve to be coddled when they get back home. At the very least, they should be required to pay back every single cent that was spent looking for them. These are people who clearly don't give a flip about all the people they were hurting while they were "missing", so why do they deserve any sympathy? They aren't getting mine, that's for darn sure.

I've never seen LE delay reporting that a missing person was found to give the family private time. Guess it depends on who the family is.

I wonder if she tried to keep playing the kidnapping card when she was found! If she was unaware that people had figured out her little game, maybe she approached the cop with some sob story, ala Audrey Seiler.

I'm glad she was found, but why would her parents need to go through therapy? She is the one who perpetrated this hoax. They may not have paid as much attention to her internet activity as some think they should, but how many parents do? Teens want privacy, they don't want their parents looking over their shoulder every time they get online. Her parents did nothing wrong, and nobody broke any laws.
My mother used to read my diary and anything else she could find and it made me so mad!! She also opened my mail and read it. I hate that, I don't believe parents have the right to pry into everything their teenager is doing, in the name of protecting them. No matter what you do, you can't be with them 24/7, you just have to trust that they have the sense to not take stupid chances. By the time they reach 16, they should have been well taught about the dangers of internet predators, and parents should feel they have instilled some trust and good sense into them. Of course, there are always going to be rebellious kids, so no matter how hard you try, you can never be certain what's going on with them. Still... I don't think it's right to be so nosy they feel like a caged tiger. It's just wrong! And for all we know, that could be part of the problem.
I felt like I lived in a fishbowl when I was her age, but I never tried to run away.
Sorry for the rant!

"Kara re-emerged with little fanfare Tuesday afternoon when she called 911 from a rest stop Burger King along the New Jersey Turnpike in South Jersey, Scherb and the State Police told The Star-Ledger this afternoon. The girl was not, as officials previously said, found walking along the side of the highway.

During the phone call, Alongi identified herself and state troopers were sent to get her. Authorities, however, would not disclose anything else about the 4:30 p.m. call.

They also would not say this afternoon what Alongi told the officers who arrived a few minutes later at the John Fenwick Service Area, located on the northbound side of the Turnpike between exits 1 and 2, and took her to a South Jersey hospital — standard procedure for any missing teen."

I just betcha she tried to keep going with her pathetic kidnapping story. I seriously hope she receives consequences for this and that it isn't just swept under the rug. Kids today are WAY too coddled and entitled.

I'm not so sure.. I think Kara herself will take to twitter and ramble.. it seems to be in her nature.. and I think she's going to revel in the attention a little bit when things die down.
