I'm not so sure.. I think Kara herself will take to twitter and ramble.. it seems to be in her nature.. and I think she's going to revel in the attention a little bit when things die down.

I just betcha she tried to keep going with her pathetic kidnapping story. I seriously hope she receives consequences for this and that it isn't just swept under the rug. Kids today are WAY too coddled and entitled.

We really don't know the full circumstances behind this yet so that, I think in my opinion, is a little rash.. If she truly did this as some bratty prank then I would agree.. but we can't say what her home life is like.. we can tell from her twitter account that she refers to her mom as "Kim" rather than mom, and her dad is "dad"... she seems to have a lot of anger issues.. There's bound to be a reason for that.

It's interesting to me that her Grandpa was more the public face of the family than her parents were.. he was the one out scouring train stations and posting up missing posters.. interviewing with the news.. her mom made a video, yes.. but her Grandpa was the big face.. why not her parents directly? .. I get the impression there's some inner turmoil there.. We already know she was having trouble with other kids at school as well... it all seems like she's a troubled kid to me.

I think she definitely owes a full explanation and public apology at the very least, regardless of the reason.. running away is one thing, but inciting panic with that twitter post is another.

It's kind of like the Tiffany Tehan case which is when I joined this forum.. she faked an abduction so she could leave her husband and be with another man.. reprehensible.. that caused such a panic, people were volunteering in search parties..

Yep, definitely like the Tiffany Tehan case! There's getting to be quite a long list of people who do this now (Runaway Bride being the most well-known!). Did you ever see Tiffany and her boyfriend on Dr. Phil? That's where I first heard about her.

No I haven't followed it much since she was found and the fact she faked the whole thing was known.. I was on these forums participating pretty heavy during the whole thing because Xenia Ohio is very near by.. that whole case angered me.

I know what you mean. All these cases anger me too. You didn't miss much with the Dr. Phil episode - just a bunch of excuses. Having followed it so closely, you would have been sickened by them, I am sure.

Well, I couldn't say much in the Ivy Merck case without everyone jumping all over me, but I'm going to say it here. We won't get any answers about this girl. We never do! I guarantee you they will play the sympathy card like they did with Ivy, and ask to please respect her and the family's privacy, blah blah blah. The poor girl has issues that need to be worked out, they'll say.

Seriously, if these people want privacy, they shouldn't do these things in the first place!!! It is beyond WRONG, and they don't deserve to be coddled when they get back home. At the very least, they should be required to pay back every single cent that was spent looking for them. These are people who clearly don't give a flip about all the people they were hurting while they were "missing", so why do they deserve any sympathy? They aren't getting mine, that's for darn sure.

Missing Clark teen Kara Alongi turned herself in, according to new information just received by the Clark Police Department.

Clark Police Chief Alan Scherb says Alongi called 911 from a Burger King in a rest area near exit 1 on the New Jersey Turnpike and came outside to meet State Troopers when they arrived.

I agree. These things shouldn't be swept under the rug. It's the perfect opportunity to use the situation as an example for other teens on what NOT to do! You pull a stunt like this, you get in trouble for it.

I'm not going to "jump all over you" (so please don't take my post the wrong way), but I don't feel the need to know why Ivy did what she did. She did NOTHING illegal, btw. (ETA: What she did was morally wrong - not notifying her family and causing stress for them - but not illegal.) She was 24 years old and was able to leave as she pleased. We were told by mods to respect her privacy (paraphrasing). If she wants us to know, she'll tell us. But, she doesn't OWE me an explanation. I'm just happy she was found ALIVE and can get any help she may need to deal with her personal situation. I'm curious, yes, but it's not my business unless she wants us to know. Ivy did nothing illegal, why should she have to pay anything back? (Wrong thread, I know.)

Kara is a minor and ran away. What she did by tweeting and inciting fear was WRONG! Does she owe me an explanation as to her decision? Nope! That's between her, her family, and the police. Would I be interested in knowing why (out of curiosity) she chose to make that text? Absolutely! Should a court order her to pay back any costs associated with a possible abduction? I'd support that too!

I'm glad she was found, but why would her parents need to go through therapy? She is the one who perpetrated this hoax. They may not have paid as much attention to her internet activity as some think they should, but how many parents do? Teens want privacy, they don't want their parents looking over their shoulder every time they get online. Her parents did nothing wrong, and nobody broke any laws.
My mother used to read my diary and anything else she could find and it made me so mad!! She also opened my mail and read it. I hate that, I don't believe parents have the right to pry into everything their teenager is doing, in the name of protecting them. No matter what you do, you can't be with them 24/7, you just have to trust that they have the sense to not take stupid chances. By the time they reach 16, they should have been well taught about the dangers of internet predators, and parents should feel they have instilled some trust and good sense into them. Of course, there are always going to be rebellious kids, so no matter how hard you try, you can never be certain what's going on with them. Still... I don't think it's right to be so nosy they feel like a caged tiger. It's just wrong! And for all we know, that could be part of the problem.
I felt like I lived in a fishbowl when I was her age, but I never tried to run away.

BBM: Typically kids don't just run away. And from what I understand, this wasn't Kara's first time. Perhaps there is something there that needs to be addressed not just in individual therapy, but including her parents.

I agree with your points on privacy...to an extent. At 16 years old, her parents are still responsible for her. They need to know what she is posting on her FB and Twitter (or any other social media sites). There are far too many dangers out there.

BBM I didn't expect anything different. That's a typical statement from LE. Her family deserves privacy. They didn't run away. Just because she sent a tweet (which was wrong on so many levels) doesn't mean she doesn't deserve privacy to deal with whatever caused her to poor decisions. I'm sure it will take time for her family to heal from this. Were her brothers traumatized thinking someone stole their sister? We don't know! Not to mention, we also don't know what she experienced while she was away. For example, Ivy was robbed! She's lucky to be alive, as is Kara. And at the end of the day, that's all that is important to me.

The runaway bride had to pay back the money that the State spent searching for her because she reported that she was abducted. Like I said, I could agree with that in Kara's case as well. You don't play games with Law Enforcement!
