........”Cops were called to the Walton Road home in Maplewood around 6 a.m. Saturday morning when a jogger ran past and saw a woman being attacked on the front lawn.”

“The woman — appearing to have tried to run from her attacker — was found in the street, bloodied with stab wounds to her head and body, according to cops and reports.”

“When police entered the home at the corner of Walton Road and Jefferson Avenue, they found an unresponsive man, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.”

“Neighbors said they spotted the nanny’s boyfriend parked in the neighborhood for hours.”

From your link Richrd:

“Cops say an ex-boyfriend brutally murdered a beloved au pair and her boss — a popular NYC comedy club owner — in a quaint, suburban New Jersey town.”

“The 27-year-old Elizabeth man Joseph Porter was charged Sunday with two counts of murder and weapons charges in connection to the grisly double homicide in Maplewood Saturday.”

So, if the neighbors had called the police for a check on the guy in the car, is this an area where there would have been police response?

And would that have changed the course of what happened? I mean, I know no one can know, but if you were the neighbors, would you call? Maybe they did call, and maybe the police did come, there's probably nothing they could do to keep him from doing it. Anyway, I'm curious.

Article from the New York Times: Nanny Asked Ex-Boyfriend to Return Key. He Arrived With a Knife.

I don't mean to insinuate that the two murder victims were engaged in anything other than a strictly professional relationship, but I did find it a bit strange that the au pair would be at the home with her male employer when (as stated in the NYT article) his wife and children were out of town.

Among the families I know who've employed au pairs when they had young children, the au pair would have been expected to go wherever the kids were to assist the parent who accompanied them. However, if the murder happened on Saturday, and this au pair had weekends off (which, based on the article, I suspect is common), it's understandable that she would be at her employers' home without the kids.

What a mistake for her to give her boyfriend a key to her employer’s house.
