Convicted murderer loses appeal in 1998 killing of ex-Bound Brook mayor's daughter

The appellate judges upheld a lower court’s ruling that Francis Gannone, Jr., 44, failed to show he received ineffective assistance of counsel at his 2001 trial. Gannone had been seeking to either reverse his conviction and receive a new trial or to be granted a hearing to review his claims.

Gannone was convicted of fatally stabbing his former girlfriend, Valerie Fasanello, the daughter of former Bound Brook Councilman Ronald Fasanello, who served as mayor and council president. He was sentenced to life in prison with 30 years to be served before he is eligible for parole.
