Husband of missing Emerson mom was using false name for years, prosecutor says
Paschal Delahunty, a 51-year-old Irish immigrant working as a painter, became a permanent resident of the United States in December 1990 using the false name of Joseph Murphy, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

“Additionally, in the course of using and maintaining his false name and date of birth, Paschal Delahunty obtained a New Jersey driver’s license and other government documents, under false pretenses in an effort to conceal his true identity,” Molinelli said in a statement.

The charges came after "interviews and evidence" in the continuing investigation, Molinelli said, without elaborating.

Authorities uncovered Delahunty’s bogus identity during the ongoing probe into the disappearance of his wife, Liza Murphy, the statement said. Murphy, a mother of three, was last seen Aug. 19, 2007 at her Broad Street home, where she reportedly had an argument with her husband.

Still no closure in case of long-missing Emerson woman as husband faces deportation

http://www.northjersey.com/news/still-no-closure-in-case-of-long-missing-emerson-woman-as-husband-faces-deportation-1.1477275

Eight years later, the investigation appears to be moving toward a bizarre and anticlimactic end. Joseph Murphy, it turns out, immigrated illegally to the United States from Ireland in 1990 using a fake name and a false birthday that made him five years younger. His real name is Paschal Delahunty.

Delahunty, 51, who was never charged in connection with Liza Murphy’s case, was arrested last December on charges of possessing a false government document. He pleaded guilty last week to using false papers to obtain a New Jersey driver’s license in 2013 and remained in custody in the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack. Under the terms of a plea deal, he must “self-deport” to his native Ireland in January after he is sentenced to time served — a little over a year.

The charges are unrelated to the investigation into Liza Murphy’s disappearance, but Rem said that they demonstrate frustration on behalf of the Prosecutor’s Office with the lack of progress in that case.
