Police are searching for a 79-year-old Toms River woman after her car was found near a lake in her housing development Thursday evening.
Martha Hesse was possibly wearing a T-shirt and pajamas when she left her home on Mt. Fairweather Lane in the Holiday City development sometime before 6 p.m. She is described as 5-feet, 5-inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Hesse might be "distraught" and in need of help. Officers also found her purse, wallet, cash, financial cards and cell phone.
Police searched the lake area with a watercraft and State Police provided a helicopter.
