New Jersey brother charged in family's murder accused of insurance fraud
COLTS NECK, New Jersey -- A grand jury in New Jersey has returned a superseding indictment against the brother of a Colts Neck man found dead with his wife and two kids days before Thanksgiving.
Paul Caneiro is now charged with insurance fraud on top of the murder, aggravated arson and other charges he previously faced in connection with the death of his brother Keith, his sister in law Jennifer, and their two kids, 11-year-old Jesse and 8-year-old Sophia.

Keith Caneiro was 90 percent owner of Squareone Inc., a technology firm, with his brother owning the remaining 10 percent. The brothers were equal owners of a second business, EcoStar Pest Management, both of which were operated out of a single office in Asbury Park.
Money had gone missing from the businesses, and Keith had told Paul he was cutting off his wife from payments.

A Monmouth County grand jury indicted Caneiro, 51, of Ocean Township, with one count of second-degree insurance fraud, the Monmouth County prosecutor's office announced Tuesday. They say that for five years, from 2012 to 2019, Caneiro received disability payments for a car accident, all while he was working for his brother's businesses.

Hi @Niner -- I'm not seeing any press about the hearing taking held but I'll search twitter.@Seattle1 - any updates on this case for next court date. I've tried searching, but getting very old articles. Guess I'm blocked over here....
I believe Paul may be seeking counsel to represent him for the insurance fraud. I think his murder defense lawyers have their hands full.

Acquaintances of Paul Caneiro had previously told the Asbury Park Press that a 2012 crash had left him forever changed, both physically and emotionally. He was charged with reckless driving in the crash, but later exonerated, court records show.
The other driver — whom he sued in civil court — was not charged.
Paul Caneiro also sued his own insurance company, alleging the other driver's insurance policy could not pay him the full amount he was owed and that his company should kick in the balance, according to his complaint. His insurance company settled with him for $120,000, court records show.
Prosecutors have previously said Paul Caneiro had a financial motive for exterminating an entire branch of his family tree.

Oxley, Christopher Decker, assistant Monmouth County prosecutor, said the state has to go through each of the “monstrous amount” of financial records and redact some information from them before turning them over to the defense. Oxley scheduled the next conference in the case for July 1.

Paul Caneiro’s case was once handled by two prominent Monmouth County defense attorneys. However, they dropped him as a client after a conflict of interest surfaced in the discovery process.
His fate now lays in the hands of the public defender’s office. One of those attorneys, Michael Wicke, declined to comment.
Caneiro is scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 2. After that, there will likely be pre-trial motions, delaying the trial for months until the spring.
His former attorney, Robert A. Honecker Jr., said he recently saw Caneiro in the jail in passing and the two exchanged pleasantries.
“He is an intelligent man,” Honecker said. “He still has the support of his family.”

But the house has been quiet for the last year. The two children were slain along with their mom and dad at 15 Willow Brook Road on Nov. 20, 2018 – their bodies recovered after a massive fire roared through the house.
