''A 24-year-old Indian woman vanished days after arriving in the United States for an arranged marriage, authorities said this week. .

Simran Simran’s flight from India arrived on June 20, according to police.

Surveillance footage discovered cops apparently shows the woman looking at her phone and seemingly waiting for someone.

Lindenwold, NJ, Police, who first learned Simran Simran was missing on Wednesday, said she didn’t appear to be in distress in the video.''

'Simran has no relatives in the states, and doesn’t speak English.Lindenwold Police Department/ Facebook''

''While initial reports suggested she came to the US for an arranged marriage, police now believe she may not have intended to go through with it and may have used the opportunity to enter the country.''

Simran was seen in grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops and small diamond earrings. The authorities have made several efforts to reach her relatives in India but to no avail.

Investigators are considering the possibility that Simran used the marriage setup as a pretext to enter the U.S., then vanished deliberately. But with no communication from her end and no family connections to trace in India, the line between voluntary disappearance and foul play is increasingly blurred.

'' Police added that she carries an international phone which only operates via Wi-Fi, making it difficult for her to communicate locally or use cellular services.''

''Simran was last seen dressed in grey sweatpants, a plain white T-shirt, and black flip-flops. She was also wearing diamond earrings. Police described her as 5 feet 4 inches tall, approximately 150 pounds (68 kg), with a small scar visible on the left side of her forehead.

Efforts to reach her family in India have so far failed. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Joe Tomasetti with the Lindenwold Police Department.

This disappearance follows another similar case earlier this year. In March, a 20-year-old Indian student named Sudiksha Konanki vanished during a vacation in the Dominican Republic. She had gone for a morning swim and was never seen again.''

The last paragraph has me scratching my head. The only similarity in these two cases is that they are Indian. Weird how they try to tie these two in together.

My first question is who reported her missing? Whole lot of details missing in the NY Post article.

They know that she came for the purpose of an arranged marriage. Was that learned from her travel visa? How do they know her phone only operates on wifi? Are they able to track it, where was the last ping?

Do they have banking information? How and by who was the airline ticket paid? I have so many questions.

These cases are not alike in any way except that both are Indian women.

Who was the "arranged marriage"groom and where was she and who was she with for the 5 days prior to her being missing?
Who picked her up at the airport?
Who reported her missing?
None of the reporting makes any sense plus if it was a legit arranged marriage maybe Simran wanted out of the arrangement or the marriage partner and/or his family didn't want it to go through and they are involved with her disappearance?
IMO

Why is just her first name "Simran" published and no surname?
Where's the airport CCTV footage?

General Geo: The town of Linderwold NJ appears to be a bedroom community of Philadelphia, which is a ~30 minute drive from the town. The presumed closest boardwalk area is in Atlantic City, NJ, 45 miles to the SE of the town. (NYC is a two hour bus ride from AC.)

Was it the would-be groom/groom's family who contacted the police? Who else would even know that she was there?

<mmo>Over the years, I've known a few Indians who had arranged marriages. Their families were very involved in the 'search', the intros, etc. It seems odd to me that she would have flown here alone, especially speaking no english. Family involvement does provide some security.

Did she arrange this on her own? Was this the first time that she had met the groom? I hope that she didn't arrive to find that they wanted a servant, not a spouse.

But on the other hand, someone did call the police about her. </mmo>

In any event, I hope she's okay, and where she wants to be.

Yes it would make sense it the groom who sounded the alarm.

I can think of several scenarios which could make sense; after meeting the groom, Simran thought marriage was not the right option and fled. She came here under the pretext of the arranged marriage, but had been talking to someone else in the US. She was taken by someone against her will.

All three have dangerous components. She’s only 24, doesn’t speak english, and came here alone.

I wish we had more detail about her background and the circumstances.
