Yes it would make sense it the groom who sounded the alarm.
I can think of several scenarios which could make sense; after meeting the groom, Simran thought marriage was not the right option and fled. She came here under the pretext of the arranged marriage, but had been talking to someone else in the US. She was taken by someone against her will.
All three have dangerous components. She’s only 24, doesn’t speak english, and came here alone.
I wish we had more detail about her background and the circumstances.
A young woman from India with no family connections in the US and who doesn't speak English, doesn't seem to be a likely candidate for someone wishing to enter the US and hide there. It would be very difficult for her to find her way to a new life without being detected.
It's possible that she didn't want to be married after all. It's equally possible, with what little we know so far, that the groom wasn't interested in marriage.
It's also possible that there was no groom and she was lured to the US. The fact that she doesn't speak English suggests that she is not from the elite class and likely wouldn't have independent financial resources.
Until we know that she has a social network in the US, I am leaning toward foul play.
