Laura Caron, a 5th-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School, allegedly had an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with the student when they lived together at Caron’s home in Cape May Court House, an unincorporated community, between 2016 and 2020, according to a press release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

I have just started a book, called, "Tampa", by Allissa Nutting, about a teacher who seduced a student, and it really shows the pathology of a child sexual abuser. It is fiction, but eye opening.

They just need to start giving heavy sentences for this garbage.

Like at least 30 plus years

That's not molestation. That's r*pe and they need to start calling it that. Disgusting abuse of a trusted profession!

I would like to know how it happened that three children were living with their teacher for several years. Where were the parents?

From the article…

“When their child was born in 2019, the alleged victim was 13 years old while Caron was 28, authorities claimed.”

Wow….no words.

and do i understand correctly that their “relationship” started in 2016 so he must have been about 10 years old? :(

(to be fair it could also be read as they were living together from 2016 - which is not that much better, but still a little bit better, i guess)

What gives? I can't imagine what a thirty-something woman gets out of a sexual relationship with a kid? She does look a little sorry now ...

Over the years, the parents of the victim said the family became friends with Caron, which ultimately led to them even allowing their boys and daughter to stay at Caron's home at times. The visits began one to two nights a week, but the children stayed with Caron permanently from 2016 to 2020, authorities revealed in court documents.

During her first appearance hearing, the judge identified Caron as a "resource family parent" for the children.

Another Mary Kay LeTourneau. She went to prison and they got married afterward.

She's a paederast. What she 'gets out of it' is indulging her desire to rape a child.

A female paederast is no different to any other. She's a predator who got a career working with children so that she could have access to them and a position of trust that she could abuse.

I’m still not understanding why a parent would their child go live with a teacher

I may be wrong, but reading elsewhere and between the lines. The parents had life challenges which made them and their home unsuitable. Laura Caron eventually became a Resource Parent to all three children. It wouldn't surprise me if she manipulated the circumstances to her own benefit. Truly disturbing.

In New Jersey, the term Foster Parent has been replaced with Resource Parent. This term more accurately reflects the Resource Parent’s supportive role to the children, the children’s family, and the professional team. The Resource Parent serves a critical role in supporting reunification efforts (the primary goal for most children entering out-of-home care).

Authorities allege that the then-11-year-old boy and his siblings regularly lived with Caron, with their mother’s consent. Eventually the children stayed with Caron on a permanent basis between 2016 and 2020, court records said

So I assume the parents were "away" and left the kids with the "teacher" for the time? Was it a fostering type situation?

(Not to explain her behavior, but i wonder if she did not step in, the kids would be in a foster home? These poor kids).

P.S. the family leaves their three kids with a young teacher for four years. Three kids! With a teacher known from school. What situation can explain it?

Substance abuse, homelessness - perhaps.

Once again, I advocate for more discussion on this issue in teacher training classes. Discussion on boundaries, what is a "slippery slope" on crossing boundaries, where you should go for help.

Why is "student-teacher" abuse such a taboo subject to discuss in education classes?! Why not discuss it at a staff meeting at schools?? It obviously happens frequently, with both male and female staff as predators.

I think it has to be someone like Vili Fualaau who should be reached out to as the source. It might be difficult to explain to boys of middle school age why the relationship is wrong. Even what we know might be met by “so what”? Different age, different mentality. It is not the teacher part but the sex part that is complex to explain. It has to be someone who started very early, has the whole life behind him and came to the conclusion that it was wrong to find the right words. JMO.
P. S. I know of a situation where the talk at school about boundary setting opened the eyes to a 10-year-old boy. He got angry and told his parents and there was a huge newspaper article as the result. But the perpetrator was a 40-year-old man. I don’t know if I can find the article, as it was pre-FB time.
ETA. My concern is that at 12, the consequences for everyone involved might not be fully understood, or cared for, by a 12-year-old boy. After all, he knows that his sister knew. Maybe he guesses that his brother saw. It didn’t stop him, not for a second. How can you explain to him that he, himself, might regret it later? He is not mature.

I don’t think Vili ever thought it was wrong though, so I doubt he would be a good spokesman. He stuck by her while she served her time in prison and they married afterward. They were divorced at the time of LeTourneau’s death, but were said to still love each other.

French President Macron and his wife Brigitte met when he was 15 and she was his 39 year old drama teacher.

I’m certainly not condoning these relationships. The adult should know better.

Vili said later that he understood it was wrong. I think that out of them two as adults, he comes across as the more stable and also, a more consistent parent than MKL. The case has been so sensationalized (financially, too) and so much revved around Mary Kay's personality, that honestly, it looks to me as if no one bothered to talk to Vili after she died. Even the Netflix movie never consulted him.

(And in the meantime, I think that he knows how a 12-year-old boy feels as opposed to how a 40-year-old man who is a father and a young grandfather does.)

About Macron, I simply don't know. Before he became the president, he was an investment banker and considered brilliant as such. I don't know how his unbelievable logic correlates with the power of self-reflection (it may, or not). But, it is another story.
