for Wednesday

Oct. 4, 2023

Prosecutors offered testimony Wednesday to support their allegation that four people on trial for federal charges of terrorism and kidnapping had prepared for violent attacks before they were arrested at a ramshackle compound near Taos in 2018.
A military weapons expert told jurors that more than 90 videos recovered at the remote property show weapons and tactical training he described as “mission preparation” by men and juveniles at the compound.

This is all I could copy before their popup to subscribe came up....

And doing a search finding no other articles... :(

Great find!
More from the article:

“In my opinion, a majority of the training was offensive in nature,” said Randy Watt, a retired U.S. Army colonel and special forces commander. “This was far removed from your standard security guard training.”

Watt also testified that the squalid compound where federal and local law enforcement officers found five adults and 11 malnourished children appeared to be designed to guard against surveillance and attack.

“The compound, the firing range, was designed to support offensive training preparation to attack a target,” Watt told jurors. The compound featured a sunken area Watt described as a bunker surrounded by a berm made of earth and tires and topped with broken glass.

The compound also featured a 100-foot tunnel with an opening outside the compound accessible by a ladder, Watt said. Some of the 11 firearms found at the complex were found inside the tunnel, he said.

“The tunnel adds a dimension to the complex” that offered both an escape route and a means of flanking attackers, Watt testified.
… … … …

RBBM = Yikes!

The rest of the article describes the history of the case that you already know.
I didn’t see anything pertaining to upcoming witnesses or dates.

Oct. 6—A witness for four people on trial in a federal terrorism and kidnapping case in Albuquerque attempted Friday to counter the argument of federal prosecutors that the group was preparing for violent attacks on government agencies and officials from a remote compound in Taos County.

The ramshackle compound itself offered a flimsy defense against attack and the 11 firearms and 500 to 600 rounds of ammunition found at the site can be purchased at retail gun stores, Joost Janssen, a military tactics expert, told jurors.

The compound was "very poorly built" and would offer little protection from law enforcement, he said.
"It's a very poor location if you want to stay hidden and you want to hide your activities," he testified in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque. "It can be accessed from every location."

Janssen also said he found no evidence the group had targeted individuals or buildings or had placed any sites under surveillance for possible attacks.

Attorneys for the four defendants began presenting their case Friday following two weeks of testimony offered by prosecutors with the U.S. Department of Justice. Chief U.S. District Judge William P. Johnson is presiding.

Janssen said the tactics in the training videos "can't be identified as offensive or defensive" and are standard techniques used by civilian security personnel. Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, who is representing himself, told jurors in opening statements that he works in the security field and plans to start his own business.

I found this one. At least it’s something, but it doesn’t say anything about where the trial currently stands.

The whirlwind of law enforcement and press activity is now gone, the squalid compound where five adults were arrested and 11 children were taken into protective custody has long since been razed. But for the residents of Amalia, a small village of under 200 residents near the Colorado border in northern Taos County, the memory of what many consider the most remarkable incident in the town's history remains vivid.

While the trial of four co-defendants arrested at the compound in August 2018 near this small Northern New Mexico village ensued in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque, Amalia residents were going about their day on Friday (Oct. 6) amid an idyllic autumnal high desert landscape filled with veins of orange, red and dark green.

The compound was in Costilla Meadows, a patch of land between Amalia and Ventero. Federal agents ordered it bulldozed in 2018, after searching it repeatedly to collect evidence.

When it came to Wahhaj and the four other adults living in the compound, no one knew who they were, local residents told the Taos News. Rivera recalled seeing Wahhaj at the Costilla gas station, but he assumed he was just a tourist headed toward Colorado. Rivera also remembered seeing a boy with him, and River said the youth appeared to be “limping.”

Despite being his neighbor, Bice also never met the group, but recalled that they would drive around Amalia in a U-Haul truck.

“I don’t think anyone expected something like that to happen around here,” Donna Cordova, another local resident, said. “No one ever saw hints or anything that there was something going on.”

But after re-reading this article - it is from the week prior.....

A witness for four people on trial in a federal terrorism and kidnapping case in Albuquerque attempted Friday to counter the argument of federal prosecutors that the group was preparing for violent attacks on government agencies and officials from a remote compound in Taos County.

The ramshackle compound itself offered a flimsy defense against attack and the 11 firearms and 500 to 600 rounds of ammunition found at the site can be purchased at retail gun stores, Joost Janssen, a military tactics expert, told jurors.

Attorneys for the four defendants began presenting their case Friday following two weeks of testimony offered by prosecutors with the US Department of Justice. Chief US District Judge William P. Johnson is presiding.
