Two students were killed when a gunman opened fire at a northern New Mexico high school Thursday morning, law enforcement officials said.

The suspected gunman was also killed, a spokesman for the New Mexico State Police told Fox News. It's unclear how the gunman died or what the motive for the attack may have been.

Update on shooting at Aztec High School: This is a unified investigation, we have the FBI and State Police Crime Scene Teams en route. We will announce a press conference location and time soon. 1 suspect shooter is deceased and 2 Aztec High School students are deceased. The families of the victims were notified immediately. No other injuries are reported at this time. The school has been evacuated and all students are to be picked up at McGee park at noon. Our priority right now is to reunite students with their families. We will continue to update our page as correct information becomes available.

WHO WERE THE VICTIMS:

New Mexico State police confirm the students killed were both students at the school. Police have said while they do know the names of the victims, they are not ready to release that information.

WHO WAS THE SHOOTER:

At this time it is not yet known of the shooter was a student at the school. Officials confirm the shooter was male but would not release his name.

Students, staff, teachers saved lives in high school shooting that killed 2: Governor

Several "acts of bravery" "saved lives" during a shooting at a New Mexico high school today that killed two students, according to the governor. New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez did not elaborate but said staff, teachers and students acted courageously.

21-year-old gunman disguised himself as student

Authorities say the 21-year-old gunman who killed two students at a New Mexico high school disguised himself as a student to gain access to the school.

San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christesen on Friday shared a message the gunman had written before the shooting on Thursday morning. It included a timeline of what the gunman had planned.

Christesen called the shooting at Aztec High School a cowardly act and that the shooter was determined to create as much carnage as he could.

Authorities said the gunman lived with his parents in Aztec and had worked at a gas station. In his message, he wrote that work, school and life was bad and he wanted out.
