Oh, WOW. Is this one of those new type of recons where they try to recreate the last place the victim was seen in public, including their clothing?
It's a great concept, though I feel iffy about the usage of AI when artists like our very own CarlK seem to be fine without it.

Why are her pants unbuttoned? Did she just take a leak on the airport floor?

Also it doesn't look AI generated to me. It seems to be a bunch of stock images cobbled together with a custom-made face.

That is what AI is.... cobbled-together stuff. No heart-and-soul.

It's rare that I see a reconstruction that ends up looking anything like the actual victim. Not a criticism of the artists, there are simply too many variables to account for, many of them environmental. So I welcome AI. Is it as accurate as a human? Who knows? Only one way to find out. Even if it's shaky now, it'll improve over time. There's nothing wrong with having multiple recons. It's not like they throw away the old ones.

🔎👀 ...... Jennifer Grey?
Yes! I totally see it! When I saw the re-con, I was racking my brain trying to think of which 80’s actress she looks like. My first thought was Rebecca Schaeffer. It’s probably just the hairstyle though.

I believe the face is made using the usual digital means, but the body and the background are AI-generated. I guess it's better than the whole thing being AI like some "reconstructions" out there, but I'm still against the use of AI images in general. Not only can it be wildly inaccurate, but it takes work away from real forensic artists who put so much effort into their art. Wouldn't be surprised if the original sketch is more accurate

That "Becca" crossed my mind too. But keep in mind Jennifer Grey hasn't been seen since around the time this poor lady was found. A woman claims to be her with a new beak, but now I'm suspicious... 🤔

Grateful for the new recon. I'm glad someone is still working on her case.

Same. Who cares if it's AI or the Mona Liser? Just use both. It's not like plagiarizing a work of art. ID'ing the deceased is the only thing that matters here. We have no idea if any of the recons of this woman are any more accurate than the other, and while they're a great tool, I'd say that about 5% of the ones I've seen look even remotely like the actual person once identified. They don't necessarily have to, either. There was a well-known case near me that went unsolved for decades - "Princess Doe" - none of the recons got the face right, and some not even her race (she was white). But the recons were still helpful because of her distinctive clothing. AI can re-create that as well as anyone.

Side note... There are other ID methods that I have a lower opinion of. I think one of them is called isotope analysis, or something like that. I get the theory behind it. But they never seem to give any useful information. It's always like, "Victim was found in NJ, and our analysis suggests that at one time she lived in either the Southeast or Arizona, or visited there." Years later, "Victim was from Long Island."

I don't think any of the Bernalillo County people in NamUs have public facial post-mortem pictures after the mid-1980s.

Well she was only dead for 2 days when they found her, so no, she wasn't a skeleton yet. Even jurisdictions that release post-mortem photos generally don't if they were already in the decomposition stage (she was unrecognizable). As far as an autopsy, those aren't made public either (I've only seen them released for celebrity deaths), and there probably wouldn't be anything unusual there (since it was determined to be "suicide by hanging"). My guess is you'd need a FOIA and a damn good reason for you getting that released, because that's pretty private info. I can't imagine how making either of those public would help the case.

The autopsy report (with some info redacted) was obtained via FOIA and put online a good few years back. It was linked in this thread back in 2019. It was on Google Drive but the link now leads nowhere as the document has been removed. I did read it back then though, and I remember a little.

In the police report there is an evidence tag that says "ligature with blood spot". That has to be the belt she used to hang herself. I wonder if it still exists somewhere. If it does it would be a great tool to get dna from

I need help identifying where the victim's outfit came from to help narrow down, if possible.

Sources say it was a suitcase strap; was it a belt? ((That honestly would make more sense.))

The post was about a year ago on the gratefuldoe subreddit. The poster said she and her mother submitted DNA and that they did have DNA on file for Becca. Updates from the OP say they are still waiting on results but a photo they had posted of their grandmother looked identical to Becca imo.
Have there been updates? I have been trying to find the update on reddit

The clerk at the Super 8 front desk confirmed that Eduardo was the guy in the photo. His family said that wasn't him in the photo, which can be taken with a grain of salt (they may have wanted to protect him from anything that may or may not have happened, and that would be the only 100% verification that he was with the deceased), but they did confirm that it was his signature that the motel had.
Did the PD ask the family for a picture of Eduardo to confirm it wasn't him in the photo? And as his ex-wife, she obviously doesn't want to get involved and have the stigma, so I don't blame her for saying no, but the PD should verify...
