NM NM - Anthonette Cayedito, 9, Gallup, 6 Apr1986

At the end of the video posted above, the investigators talk about a sighting at a restaurant in Albuquerque. A woman working at the restaurant heard the customer in question say her name was Anthonette and took a picture of her. They show the picture side-by-side with a picture of Penny. I do not know the date of this supposed sighting. I do not know if the reporter has posted a new video or update regarding this lead.
There is absolutely zero chance that is Anthonette. This case has certainly attracted it's fair share of mentally unstable people either claiming to be Anthonette, making prank calls, witness sightings, etc.

Anthonette is almost certainly deceased, but if she were still alive, chances are she would likely be in Mexico, or would have attempted to make contact with family.

I also believe that she is deceased, unfortunately. I just really wish they would find her.

Has law enforcement ever come out and said if the phone call was believed to be real or fake?

The excellent true crime podcast Trace Evidence recently shared an update on Anthonette’s case, essentially sharing that the prime suspect in her disappearance is, and always has been, Anthonette’s mother, Penny. As the other poster stated, a close friend of Penny’s brought an adult male friend of his around, someone referred to as ‘Emo’, who showed an unsettling interest in Anthonette; he brought her flowers and made her extremely uncomfortable. Law enforcement and Anthonette’s sister Sadie both believe Anthonette was either sold to or given to this man by Penny, possibly for drugs. Penny’s story changed several times, and she supposedly confessed to the FBI when they got involved, though the FBI did not immediately pass this information on to Gallup police, for whatever reason.

IIRC, the close friend of Penny’s, who initially brought this ‘Emo’ degenerate around, is still missing and wanted for questioning. While I sincerely doubt Anthonette is alive anymore, there’s still a chance for some measure of justice for her. Perhaps someone knows where her body is or what happened to her after she was taken (given away?) from her home. If New Mexico LE and the FBI are correct, and I have no reason not to believe this update isn’t accurate, then Anthonette was betrayed by the person she was supposed to trust most in this world. Absolutely gut wrenching.
There's a man named emilio gardella that lived in NM and retired from the service, then moved to Arizona within about a year of her disappearance. I also heard that there was a sighting of her there around the time he moved

Later in 1994, Penny confessed to the FBI that she had been involved in Cayedito's abduction, asking "What if me and Emo [Emiliano Gardella] did this, would we both go to prison?"
Says it all, really.

Agreed. The fact that there have been no updates about this supposed “sighting” just seals the deal that it wasn’t credible.

To be honest, I find it bizarre that anyone would photograph a complete stranger because they “looked similar”, then post that photo and their assumption that it’s Anthonette all over social media. The odds of that being credible are absolutely nil and I wish people would stop sharing that kind of nonsense.

Painful as it may be to admit, we’re almost certainly looking for a body and not a living person.
