Just trying to get the facts straight

-He's from New Jersey. Mom spoke to him at home in NJ and then he went missing.
-His car turned up in Albuquerque and there is footage of him checking out of the hotel where his car was found.
-His phone pinged in San Ysidro, NM after he checked out of the hotel.
-Self harm is feared.

There is no known reason for him to be in NM? He wasn't attending UNM? Visiting a friend? Taking a road trip?

Driving from New Jersey to California takes you right through Albuquerque.

Some people just drive Route 66, which is Central Avenue in ALB.

Do we have any indication of his route, or destination?

Oddly enough, San Ysidro is relatively near/near the road to Jemez Springs:
