- Distinguishing Marks/Features: Speaks fluent Spanish. He has a large scar on the outside of his lower left leg where skin, tissue, and muscle were surgically removed. The scar is approximately eight or nine inches long and two or three inches wide.

- Other: Hawkins was suicidal and had previously attempted to commit suicide.
Hawkins was last seen driving his pickup truck in Las Cruces, New Mexico on March 19, 1998. On April 19, his truck was found locked and abandoned in a desert arroyo in rural southern New Mexico. Search and Rescue teams conducted an extensive search of the area but turned up no sign of Hawkins. When the keys were brought to the vehicle's location, it started and was driven back to Las Cruces. He has never been heard from again.
Hawkins' wife stated that he was suicidal at the time of his disappearance and that he had attempted suicide on three different occasions. He worked as an agricultural manager at New Mexico State University from 1967 to 1996. He was declared legally dead on March 19, 2003 although his whereabouts remain unknown.
