I am giving this interesting case a bump. I hope it is not a duplicate thread and I have tried searching for a thread on the crime. I am a big Unsolved Mysteries fan and have watched them too many times really. I remember this case being on the program along with that of another priest in Montana. My particular theory is that someone may have been working through Scorpio's list from Dirty Harry the 1971 film and owed himself a Padre. Far fetched perhaps but worth looking at:

Here is some more information on Scorpio. If someone was working his list this would make the attacks on the priests possibly random crimes by a stranger to them:

Just my theory but a killer with a twisted sense of humour that mostly lived in the Zodiac Killers shadow but in his twisted mind wanted a bit of the limelight. But was mostly happy to keep this notoriety in this deeply warped mind:

The murder of this Priest in Montana has been linked with the murder of the Priest in New Mexico and I remember watching the two cases in the same segment on Unsolved Mysteries. Rest stops are a possible connection and the killer perhaps used the ruse of a 'catholic sounding name' to lure the priests there:

Of course these are my theories particularly the one about someone who was a fan of Scorpio was working his list. I will now leave this thread for a while. This is half a joke as such but other posters might want to give their opinions. As I say it is good that there is a website like Websleuths that works hard to solve cases for victims of crimes along with LE.

With his rather large nose that Officer McGowen observed I believe the man in the CCTV is the Virginian Ralph Jackson relieving his Californian crimes frim the 1970s:

As I usually say just before I go. I believe the vast majority of LE involved in these cases including the FBI and their Directors are honest. If it was not for them these cases would not be solved at all but they need to get their act together and stop innocent people suffering for Jackson's crimes and finally identify him to the victims.

Keep getting my believe muddled up with my beliefs. Of course there are two suspects in the NorCal and Golden State Killer cases. The NorCal Rapist may have studied the East Area Rapist and learnt form him as they have similar behaviours and vile sense of humours. Here is an interesting reddit thread:

Of course I was wrong here but I meant reliving the East Area Rapist crimes as the NorCal Rapist as I have said before on some kind of twisted holiday from his Virginian home.
