Closing arguments are over and now it goes to the jury. First order of business is to let the 2 alternates go and pick a jury foreman.

That is a Blog not a media or News link.
A local blogger who apparently bothered to go down to the courthouse and look up records. There are dates and times and names listed, not to mention other details that would not be there (or would be far more exaggerated) if this was being woven from whole cloth. And since this occured in 1994--good luck finding a online news link. Although the blogger does mention that there was a brief mention in the paper at the time he took the plea. I tried accessing Alamagordo's clerk of court and municipal court online and their webpage is barebones, to say the least. Having grown up in a small town where one of the sheriffs was widely known to take bribes to look the other way (even in the cases of murder and rape), what elected community officials get up to and how willing they are to scratch one another's backs, and how everyone else is willing to keep their mouth shut if they know what's good for them, nothing surpises me.

Guilty on all charges...1st (Marilea), 2nd (Tryone), and Voluntary Manslaughter (Paul), plus tampering charges.

Yes, it is a bad day for child abuse victims. What can you do? Can you stand up? What can I do? I think we need to monitor the sites. If there is an inkling we need to follow up so no more family tragedies happen. We can also hope that LE puts all the info so we can monitor. If they don't, shame on them. If we don't, shame on us.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Oh this just breaks my heart. There's no way he will get the help in prison that he needs.......IMO I would have hung this jury if I was on it, b/c there's no way in hell I would have found him guilty.

The only issue I was wishy-washy on was Marilea, and I freely admit to not having followed the case well enough to have all of the information.

God help him.

I know how you feel. I am just heartbroken. Just another that goes by the wayside. Just think how many could speak up and help others? Just think that the words could break the cycle? I am never about murder but I am about victims and this case was the one that proved my theories different and redeemable. But I was wrong, again.

I really hope Cody gets the help he needs. The boy needs therapy and I say he is a boy still. I feel very sorry for him and if I was in any way to help I would. But you see I am in Canada, and I am going to tell you a story that would make you not believe me. Both my brother and I were so abused by my mother it was not even funny. We were put through hell and back till the time she tried to kill my brother for standing up to her, I thank God her no good friends were there the day she took a Butcher Knife to my brother and took it off of her and threw it out the window. My mother used to smash our heads into the wall kick us, punch us and hit us with what ever she can get her hands on. She did so much more to us. We did have our grandparents to save my brother and I, so no social workers were ever involoved cause of them. To this day we both call her Mommy and terrified of her but wish she was never born. My brother was in and our of jail since he was 15 years old and no one ever tried to help him except my grammies and I cause we both knew what went on in his life. For myself I have a child and love him till the end of them earth and would never be to mean to him. He is twelve now and if I ever get near the way my mother was with my brother and I, I will go and get help right away. Today we know that my mother was on drugs and crap when we were younger but to me that is no excuse. We still call her mommy cause we are thinking of her like we needed her. Sorry if none of this makes sense, but I needed people to understand where Cody stood. If we did not have my Grandparents I think my brother would of been Cody. Cody had no one to protect him. I am so sorry it turned out this way. Sorry for rambling on .

I listened to today's verdicts and just felt extremely sad. There were no "winners" in this case.
Perhaps in the sentencing phase, the Judge will treat Cody like what he is: an abused kid that deserves a chance to live his life SOME day--- free from punishment. I hope the Judge will sentence him as a juvenile, since that's what he is.

When did the verdicts come in? I've been watching Fox, CNN, and MSNBC all evening and hadn't heard a word.

This means that he will be in prison for the rest of his life????? I am sick to my stomach. I hope some of the jurors speak to the press on CTV tomorrow.
I just can't believe this. I expected manslaughter but not the rest of his life in prison.

I sure as hell wish any one of the alternates had gotten to deliberate. She would have hung the dam jury. They all said they would have gone with manslaughter :furious:

I believe you Rileysmom ... and I am grateful your grandparents were there for you. I too am so sorry for Cody and hope the judge can feel some compassion for him.

I was a little torn by this case...but it all came down to me that this person murdered a 13 year old girl in cold blood and I just can't get over that one to begin with.

And then, the second couple things for me were that even tho this kid's father was a complete and utter A-hole - I'm not sure why there wasn't more physical evidence of the horrid abuse that was talked about in trial....and then on top of that - if he killed them because of the final straw of abuse, why didn't he kill them and call up the police and say, "I couldn't take it anymore," and then point out the "branding" or burning that supposedly took place the night before. I've been searching, but no where can I find that there were pictures of the burning/branding (please correct me if there were pictures or evidence of it beyond him saying it happened).

I do think the the 1st degree and 2nd degree verdicts were correct. I think he should have been found guilty of 2nd degree on the dad also.....had he actually ran for a gun the night before when he was supposedly trying to be forced into sex and was burned and shot them on the spot in the bed with the step-mom naked and dad with a butane lighter in hand - then I would have agreed with the manslaughter conviction on dad and possibly even step-mom - but it's still 1st degree on the step-sister, no question about it.

Very pleased with the verdict here too. Very just. Very fair.

I think its a heartbreaking case all the way around but I think the verdicts were just.
I heard today that Cody has been in over 10 fights in detention and spent 80 days in solitary. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds in senencing.

I cannot say that I am pleased with the verdict. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I do believe that Cody needs to spend some time in jail for his actions. If he had gotten aquitted it would be known to him that he murdered people and nothing happened to him. He had a reason, yes a d**n good one, but what's to say he wouldn't justify something else in his mind. (I am not saying the abuse was in his mind)I also think that he needs some medical treatment. Just watching him during this trial, it seems as if he knows he did what he did, but has pushed it back in his mind and hasn't dealt with it.

Where did you hear about the fights from?

Verlin Posey was on CTV and he and the anchor were discussing it. She (the Anchor) had heard the rumors about it and Verlin was confirming it to her.
