In a statement posted to Facebook earlier this month, Wilkerson said dozens of official searchers, along with friends and neighbors coordinating with authorities, have used ground teams, horseback units, drones, helicopters, three types of search dogs, and neighborhood canvassing, including checks for Ring and wildlife videos.

She said she wanted to “dispel” some of the “misinformation” about the case, including what she said were some people’s assumptions that the health condition mentioned in the Silver Alert issued for McCasland was Alzheimer's.

“Neil is at some risk, but not from dementia,” Wilkerson said. “He was not confused and disoriented.”

Wilkerson also said, “There was no concerning Friday-morning telephone call to a close relative.”

“I have been in contact with all of his close relatives and some not-so-close ones,” she said. “This is a complete fabrication.”

Wilkerson then went on to say that while her husband “had access to some highly classified programs and information,” but retired nearly 13 years ago, and “has had only very commonly held clearances since.”

“It seems quite unlikely that he was taken to extract very dated secrets from him,” she said.
Reqarding the wife's comment “It seems quite unlikely that he was taken to extract very dated secrets from him,”, some secrets are still secrets no matter how old and dated they are. While extraction of same may be unlikely to her, extraction may not be the goal. The goal may be to preserve the secrecy of whatever secrets he may have. With the possibility of a dementia related state of mind, even though that may be denied, some may be concerned enough about a possible leak, unintentional or otherwise, that he may be undergoing something like a debriefing. I'm not thinking a conspiracy but I'm also not so naive to believe that our government is not more than capable of very clandestine actions when they so choose.

I can’t pretend to take credit for this research. I found it on a comment to an article elsewhere. Just interesting the amount of possibilities there are for McCasland’s disappearance. What would the case below look like in the social media driven world of today?

The case of this woman, Dr. Ning Li. She was a Chinese American physicist who disappeared from the public eye, leaving many to believe that she had been “disappeared”. In reality she was working for the DOD in complete secrecy, according to her son.

Uncovering The Mystery Of Huntsville’s Brilliant Anti-gravity Scientist - Huntsville Business Journal

Not only was Dr. Ning-Li from Huntsville, she was also a trailblazer in the field of anti-gravity research. After migrating to America from China in 1983, Li began working at the University of Alabama Huntsville’s (UAH)Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research.

She became famous and somewhat controversial for a series of papers she co-authored from 1991 – 1993.
..
In 1999, Li left UAH to start her own company, AC Gravity, and commercialize a device based on her theories. Her colleagues obviously believed in her work as the chair of UAH’s Physics Department, Larry Smalley, also departed the university to join her. Public records show that in 2001, the U.S. Department of Defense gave AC Gravity a grant for $448,970 to research the technology. However, these results were never published.

In fact, Dr. Li never published anything again. And even though the business license for AC Gravity was updated yearly through 2018, there is no record of any further work done by the company.
..
As the years passed, the conversation regarding Li’s whereabouts started to amplify along with the conspiracies around it. In July of 2008, a scientist named Jack Sarfatti provided a rather alarming update during an interview that was later posted on YouTube and included in the video from Barely Sociable.

During the interview, Sarfatti claims that Li was no longer working for the DoD and had moved back to China to continue her work. The transcript of the interview conveys the seriousness of this accusation.

“This is very important from a national security and political point of view. One of the key scientists ….. is a Chinese woman named Ning Li. She has disappeared and gone back to China,” said Sarfatti.
….
George was vaguely aware that people were still interested in his mom but he didn’t understand just how interested people were. I played Barely Sociable’s video for him and his two children in his living room along with showing him some of the online discourse and he was able to clarify some things people have speculated on over the years. Most importantly, Dr. Li never left the DoD and never left the country to work for the Chinese government.

“As of today, despite the collective efforts of law enforcement and the community, we still do not know what happened to Neil after he left home on February 27.”

The sheriff’s office believes that there are people “who have information valuable to locating Neil who have not yet spoken to law enforcement.”

“This could include people who have been in the Sandia Mountains and may have seen Neil or captured him on a GoPro or other recording device, specifically on Friday, February 27 or Saturday, February 28,” the news release added.

Police reminded the public of “hiking safety tips,” including picking the “right trail for you and your group’s ability, remember to let people know where you are, dress in layers, be sure to have enough water and always take your cell phone or some other way to communicate.”

So George didn’t even know that his mom never left the DoD. In the event that something similar happened to Neil, his wife probably doesn’t know anything about it either. MOO

? Can't find anything in the article stating or implying that George didn't know this.

And one question keeps coming to me: IF the wife knew he was going on a hike on that trail, how does she not know what he was wearing?
I was with you up to this question. Why would knowing he was going for a hike mean she should know what he was wearing?

Updated Timeline and Description in Search for William “Neil” McCasland

BCSO is releasing the following verified timeline to provide clarity on what is known. On February 27 at approximately 10:00 a.m., a repairman was at the residence and interacted with Mr. McCasland. At approximately 11:10 a.m., Mrs. McCasland Wilkerson left the home for a medical appointment. At approximately 12:04 p.m., she returned home and Mr. McCasland was not there. His phone, prescription glasses, and wearable devices were located at the residence. Mrs. McCasland Wilkerson began attempting to locate Mr. McCasland and contacted family and friends. At approximately 3:07 p.m., she reported him missing and the investigation began immediately. As the investigation has progressed, BCSO has identified items believed to be unaccounted for from the residence. Investigators believe Mr. McCasland may have been wearing the shirt shown in the attached photo.

The photo depicts Mr. McCasland wearing a light green, long sleeve button-up outdoor shirt. Additional items believed to be missing include his hiking boots, wallet, and a .38 caliber revolver with a leather holster. Investigators also located a gray U.S. Air Force sweatshirt approximately 1.25 miles east of the residence on Saturday, March 7. The item was collected and processed. No blood was detected during initial processing, and additional analysis is pending. The sweatshirt has not been confirmed by family or friends to be associated with Mr. McCasland; however, it prompted an additional targeted search effort in the area.BCSO continues to pursue all credible leads and follow up on every tip received. While there is currently no evidence indicating foul play, investigators are examining all available information as the case remains active. Investigators have expanded a neighborhood canvass to more than 700 homes, requesting security video and information.

Additional search efforts have included drone operations, helicopter support, ground searches with Search and Rescue teams, and K 9 searches. To date, BCSO has not received any confirmed sighting or confirmed video showing Mr. McCasland leaving the area or indicating a direction of travel. Search efforts and investigative follow up are ongoing. The Silver Alert was issued based on information available early in the investigation that indicated Mr. McCasland could be at some level of risk and that additional public assistance was needed to locate him. Due to privacy laws, BCSO will not release medical details or speculate about his state of mind.

BCSO is again asking anyone in the area to check and submit security camera footage from Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28, particularly between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in and around Quail Run Court NE and routes leading away from the neighborhood. If you were in the foothills or on trails February 27 to 28, please review any GoPro or phone footage and submit anything that may help.

So according to the time line, a repairman was there at 10:00am, wife leaves at 11:10am, wife returns at 12:04pm and finds Neil gone.
Questions.....what time did the repairman leave? Who was there when the repairman left? What was being repaired? Did Neil have a vehicle? Was it still at the house? Did Neil leave a note with his plans, i.e. activity, destination return time?

Thanks for posting the update. It’s so good to hear some things confirmed that have been speculated and see the picture of how he may have appeared that day. But of course it is alarming in that our worst fears may have been confirmed. Still we go forward. I for one feel renewed hope that at least I may be able to trust the official narrative. I was beginning to wonder if they had simply forgotten public interest.

SBM

So he left with a gun and his wallet.
To me it reads: boots to comfortably walk on uneven terrain (ie. somewhere woody/remote), gun for obvious reason, and wallet to make sure he is identified once found.

It's giving bad vibes.

Is NM nearsighted? Can he see where he's going without his glasses? Does he only have the 1 pair? Does he alternate with contact lenses? or....are the glasses just for reading?

What are the additional items? helmet? waterbottle? trailmix? protein bar? space blanket? daypack? keys?
Is there money in the wallet? bank card? or ID only?

Maybe his dementia wasn't as severe as some thought, and he reasoned out an end.

Has the missing firearm ever been mentioned beforehand?

His wife stated he didn’t have dementia.

This is the first time I have seen that he took a firearm.

Because he left his watch and phone at home, I have been concerned that he might have been planning self-harm. Now that I see that he also left his prescription glasses at home and took a revolver with him, I am even more concerned that it was self-harm. The only thing that doesn't fit in with that is that he took his wallet.

So, the sweatshirt was located roughly near the Elena Gallegos Open Space.

Thanks for catching that -- it is a revolver. I will correct my post. I don't know anything about firearms, so I didn't catch it.
