Father arrested for allegedly beating five-year-old daughter to death for refusing to do homework | Daily Mail Online

Brandon Reynolds, 36, of Albuquerque was charged Friday with intentional abuse resulting in the death of a child under the age of 13, according to the police.

Police say he'd become furious when his daughter, Sarah Dubois-Gilbeau, refused to do her homework on Thursday around 8pm. He told officers he was so angry that he 'blacked out' when spanking her with a shoe, ABC News reported.

He then called 911 at 1am Friday morning claiming that his daughter was in cardiac arrest, said Police Chief Michael Geier in a press conference.

'Her dad refused to accept she was autistic. Her father killed her because he could not deal with her autism,' wrote the girl's mother, Chantel Dubois. She lost custody of her daughter to Brandon Reynolds after he accused her of marijuana use.

'As sweet as my daughter was, as all children they have resistance it seems that is something her father was not able to deal with.'

'She didn't deserve this,' said a sobbing neighbor and former babysitter to KOAT Action News. 'She was so cute. She was a little angel.'

Reynolds allegedly told police he struck his daughter with a water shoe, a type of footwear used during activities like kayaking, all over her body until she stopped moving, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Reynolds then allegedly applied ice to her back, and left her in bed for hours until her heartbeat grew faint prompting him to call 911.

Reynolds is currently being held in Bernalillo County's Metropolitan Detention Center.

Disgusting. He had to have beaten her savagely for an extended period in order to kill her with a water shoe. There was no blackout, IMO. He tortured her to death.

Hope he enjoys life in prison now. Was it worth it, monster? To take this precious child from her mother? And then murder her?

I feel so very defeated reading yet another case where a child dies by the hands of the one who should be her protector, and best ally and advocate.

My heart is breaking for all of these tortured and murdered children, and for all those children who live in similar circumstances. May a savior come their way before it is too late.

So what would be the appropriate punishment for beating to death an autistic child, who didn’t want to do their kindergarten homework?

I just can’t. That poor beautiful baby girl. :(

What can you even say here. I just can't even understand this.

Autistic children in my school system do have homework. No excuse to beat her to death if she was refusing though.

From the Daily Mail: "Investigating officers found blood on the walls and the carpet of the living room, according to a criminal complaint. "

That is more than a beating with a water shoe.

At 5 years old? That is why I’m so shocked.

Most schools have homework for pre-K and K, not huge amounts of work but practice. The homework helps to keep parents/guardians in the loop and is small step toward helping families create a pattern of work at home in a small stakes way.

Wow. Must be a new thing compared to when mine went to school (15-20 years ago). I had one on each end of the spectrum, 1 reading very early and 1 very learning delayed. Neither would have done well with homework at 5 years old but for very different reasons.

The homework is usually parent/guardian/student reading, find items in your home that starts with the letter ____, a math thing like find two triangles and one square in your home, etc. Not difficult items but rather activities to encourage fun in learning while helping the family to begin to set aside time for focus and "work" in a thoughtful, planned way.

ITA. Giving homework to an autistic 5-year-old seems to have turned into a recipe for horrific disaster.

Homework or not, this man should be hurt. When you hurt a kid you should not be considered human. What do we do to dogs that maul children? We put them down. This mutt should be put down. Period!

Sickening. He looks mean, imo.
How much homework can a 5 year old have?
I hope he lives a long, miserable life caged like a savage beast.

Seriously. A little autistic kid? How does a person beat a kid with a shoe that bad? Come on Karma!

Hell's belles yes! I own "water shoes" as I'm a kayaker. and neither sea nor river kayak shoes weigh more than a pound at most. Dirty rotten liar.

JMO but it seems to me Reynolds was looking for an excuse to beat his daughter. MOO.

I can't even imagine the fear a kid would feel to have an adult attacking them. Let alone your own parent. So disgusting! There are no words to describe the pain I feel for this kid. Is the death penalty active in NM?

And being new to this amazing site, what does MOO mean?
