I don't understand why they let the brother fly across the country to take possession a gun that wasn't even the gun involved (I know the brother didn't know this at that time).

That almost seems like entrapment? I'm not one who usually supports criminal behavior, and my idea of the right way to support a family member at this point would be to escort them to the police to turn themselves in, so I don't think brother's actions were right. But once the gun used was apprehended by LE, the brother had no part in the crime. Unless he was also in town the night Sasha was kidnapped.

It was definitely a set up. It actually concerns me that they felt the need to do that? Unless the brother was refusing to cooperate and out in the open (i.e. to other friends or family members) discussing how he wanted to interfere with the investigation? Because if I'm MG's defense lawyer, which I'm glad I'm not, I would try to argue that LE was railroading my client to the extent of setting up my client's family members instead of going out investigating the "real killer."

That said, LE may have clear forensic evidence that ties MG to the crime. Which I hope is the case! But I am definitely curious why they'd spend the time and money to set up his brother who lived across the country.

At the very end of a post about SG’s arrest by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office on its Facebook page from Monday, it says:
“This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.”

I have a feeling that he will be charged with additional crimes, possibly followed by one or more arrests.

This may also explain why so few details about the case have been released to the public.

ETA: As pointed out by others, Sasha was last seen alive during the evening hours of the Saturday of a long weekend, with Monday being the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. It is not outside of the realm of possibility, IMO, that SG in fact participated in her murder.

No bail and some new info cell phone texts , cell phone tower locations , Male Dna on Sasha and under her nails .

A Coconino County judge denied the opportunity for bail at a Thursday hearing for an airman who allegedly kidnapped and killed Sasha Krause, citing phone location data and texts from the suspect’s phone.

I'm sure the order of operations went something like this:

Perp asks uninvolved friend to hold on to a rifle for him
Perp asks brother to come pick up and dispose of rifle
Perp and brother make friend aware of their plan and aware that the rifle is a murder weapon
Friend makes contact with law enforcement so as not to be an accessory
Law enforcement takes rifle into evidence and provides a substitute rifle
Brother takes possession of substitute rifle with clear intent to tamper with evidence and is arrested
 
Law enforcement investigators say an Air Force airman charged with murdering a Mennonite woman from New Mexico had once been part of a Mennonite community. Mark Gooch, 21, was arrested April 21 in connection with the death of Sasha Marie Krause, 27, who went missing Jan. 18 from the parking lot of Farmington (N.M.) Mennonite Church, which is connected to the Lamp & Light community in Farmington.

Another brother, Samuel Gooch, was been charged with impeding an investigation after flying from Wisconsin to Arizona to allegedly retrieve a gun that may have been used to shoot Krause.

Gooch has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, kidnapping and theft charges.

Until prosecutors say they will not seek the death penalty, Gooch is being held without bail.

A Coconino County Superior Court judge has set the murder case of Sasha Krause, a 27-year-old Sunday school teacher, for a trial in August of 2021.

Mark Gooch, the U.S. Air Force airman who has pleaded not guilty to murdering Krause, was in virtual attendance for the Thursday hearing. Attorneys agreed to the August trial date, showing that no plea agreement had been reached at this point. Gooch was originally indicted by a grand jury for first-degree murder after he was arrested from Luke Air Force Base in May.

Gooch is being held on a $2 million cash-only bond for first-degree murder.

The airman is now being represented by Flagstaff attorney Bruce Griffin after swapping with former attorney Matthew Springer. Prosecutor Ammon Barker said on Thursday he planned to rely upon "complicated" expert testimony for their case, so the trial is set to last for three weeks.

“FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Prosecutors will be allowed to present evidence at an upcoming trial that they say shows a U.S. Air Force airman charged in the death of Mennonite woman had disdain for the religious group, a judge ruled Friday.

The evidence includes text message exchanges between defendant Mark Gooch and his brothers where he talked about surveilling Mennonite churches in metropolitan Phoenix and praising one for ticketing a Mennonite during a traffic stop.

Gooch is charged in the shooting death of Sasha Krause, who lived in a Mennonite community outside Farmington, New Mexico. Krause disappeared while gathering materials for a Sunday school course in January 2020, and her body was found outside Flagstaff more than a month later.

Jury selection begins Sept. 21 for the three-week trial. Gooch faces life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder and other charges.
