Leroy Vallejos, 49, was booked overnight into the Metro Detention Center and is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.

Citing the Albuquerque Police Department, KRQE reported that Vallejos confessed to choking his mother to death in October.

The media outlet said Vallejos told authorities he believed his mother, 69-year-old Ernestina Lucero, was conspiring against him, adding that he thought she was part of a "group of people giving their lives to darkness."
