GUILTY NM - Two killed, 4 injured in shooting at Clovis library, 28 Aug 2017 *Arrest*

I wonder how he got the gun? I know how easy it is to get a gun illegally, but I'm really hoping it wasn't his fathers gun especially if he had been having suicidal thoughts. Guns are way too accessible to young people and if he is his fathers gun or any other family... sorry, but they need to be charged too.

Okay, first thought upon seeing this picture:

Was this show:

Probably means absolutely nothing and is just a coincidence.
However, my DH was a "24" nut so it jumped out at me!
Lots of people kind of idolize Jack Bauer's character... so anything is possible I guess?

Old facebook ending in 2013... likes and pictures are a bit mature for a 12/13 year old.
Though I do not see the show "24" as a like on there.
Others like Walking Dead and Grand Theft Auto are there. (Yes to gamer apparently.)

New facebook, current.

His actual baptism video comes up in a facebook search of his name.

I don't think it's linked. That time stamp is the default one for Snapchat. If you want the time on your photo, that's the one you get. I doubt this kid has ever seen 24, it's not as hot of a show these days as it was a few years ago.

I'm so numb to this, I just hate that this keeps happening. Ugh. So many thoughts.

Yeah, I was just talking about that with my husband. They haven't said how he got it, but going by publicly viewable info and profiles, I'm going with what you mentioned. A family member who is extremely proud of his guns...may be the source, knowingly or not.

My suspicion is lack of security. Malls, large events, and even high school football games now have a noticeable police presence. But our library does not.

Bingo.

Libraries generally have one entrance/exit (aside from fire exits that most people don't even consider). No security, trapped victims. Tactical advantage goes to the shooter. He could even jump up on a desk/table and then it's basically fish-in-a-barrel. I'm so angry over this. I am so sick of these things happening.

The two dead have been identified. Wanda Walters, an older woman who worked at the library, and Krissie Carter, known as "Miss Krissy," who worked with children at the library and did the kids' readings. :(

Not to take away from the tragedy of these poor women losing their lives, but I hope he didn't shoot any children. Any info on the 4 wounded?

Just going through all the facebook pages of shooter, his mom and his girlfriend. I wonder why he was estranged from his mother. I think I can guess based on the pictures on her facebook. But looking at the girlfriends facebook and his facebook nothing honestly sticks out as troubling. I wonder if had had other social media? Any twitter accounts?

I understand that males are the primary shooters, but the first school shooting I heard of was Brenda Spencer in San Diego. Said she did it because she didn't like Mondays. Someone made a song out of it, but I've only heard the cover by Tori Amos.

"It’s unclear how many patrons were inside the library when the shooting began, although it appears many were children.

One image from the scene showed a Clovis police officer, a rifle slung over his shoulder, carrying a small boy away from the building. Others showed children moving with police behind the relative safety of a parked van."

There were children inside  I really pray he did not shoot any children. The poor kids will be scarred for life even if they didn't get shot.

Good article with photos https://www.abqjournal.com/1055121/man-threatened-by-clovis-library-shooter-describes-scene.html

"Lupe Aguirre had just watched his wife walk into the Clovis-Carver Public Library Monday afternoon, when a family came running out of the building, screaming that there had been a shooting.
He said he ran in to look for his wife and instead found smoke clearing from gunfire, casings on the floor and parents and children hiding under tables and behind locked doors.
Minutes later, Aguirre said, he found himself cornered by the shooter and staring down the barrel of a gun."

Thanks for posting these links, Springrain. To summarize...run, hide, fight...in that order of preference. I will now try to make a point to be more aware of my run or hide options in public places. Ugh. What a way to have to live.

I have been trained in ALICE Active Shooter Training (https://www.alicetraining.com/) by the NYPD and, in my opinion, any institution that opens its doors to the public should have all employees trained. In this day and age, it is not responsible to have public areas where children and adults congregate and not have a comprehensive training with some plans that employees can implement. Many college campuses provide free training to college employees, students and the public for free. I highly recommend this training for anyone who wants to have solid information and practice.

I have no sympathy for this shooter. That said, I believe we have a mental health crisis in our country. The number of people who are not mentally healthy is growing and there is a huge issue of getting them cost effective and competent help.

Here is a young man in crisis, enough so that his pastor knows, but no one thought to keep an eye on him, lock the guns away, and get him some help. He was reporting anxiety attacks 24 hours before-- should have gone to the hospital for an eval. I am tired of the idea that clergy who are not licensed to provide MH interventions are capable of assessing and dealing with people who are in mental health crisis. It is a crime that no one in his sphere sought out help. This young man needed a trained psychiatric worker and evaluation.

A very American form of terrorism.

Since the Aurora shooting, I've always made sure to mentally note where the exits are in bigger public places like movie theaters, concert halls, etc. It seems obvious in hindsight but it is very easy to forget- It is very simple and just takes a few seconds, but it may save your life if something terrible happens. It may help others as well if you can point them in the right direction, and there won't be as much scrambling around.

It is very unfortunate that we've become this way. It happens all the time and we are never truly safe.

The registered owner of this gun, when/if found, needs to be locked away too. When people make the choice to own weapons and a crime is committed by a minor with the owner's gun, the owner needs to pay a very stiff price. That's the only way people will be forced to be responsible with their weapons. If you can't 100% guarantee that your gun is not going to be able to be taken, then you have absolutely no business having one. Prosecute registered gun owners when a crime is committed with their gun. 100%.

I agree completely.

Here's an update on the victims, and then I'll have to take a break. I deal with acute, chronic anxiety and depression and this plus the hurricane and all the victims--people and animals--is too much for me to deal with right now, especially since there's been a delay on my anxiety meds and I'm not coping well. Sorry for the TMI.
