Noel was last seen camping with friends at Dam Lake in Aitkin, Minnesota on October 31, 1986. They had a party that went on into the morning hours. At 5:45 am, Noel left the campsite alone to go grouse hunting in the swamp. He never returned. An extensive search turned up no sign of him, only his discarded mosquito-netting mask.
