Marcus Smith, an emergency room health unit coordinator at St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center, said the hospital, about 65 miles (104 kilometers) south of the epicenter, shook but the quake didn’t interfere with the treatment of any patients. The hospital in Blaine County is on the front line of Idaho’s coronavirus outbreak, in a region with the highest per-capita rates of known COVID-19 cases in the nation outside of New York City and surrounding counties.

“It felt like a wave going through the ground, so I knew right away what it was. It just felt like waves going through the ground,” he said.

#EARTHQUAKE near Boise, Idaho this evening. Magnitude was 6.5 and was felt by folks in ID, OR, WA and MT. One eyewitness said it felt like the ground was "swaying". Another said they were in their car at a stop sign, and it felt more like she was in a boat on the water.

6.5 magnitude quake in Idaho. 5th largest in state history and largest since 1983. Rare event. Catches attention due to proximity to Yellowstone. About 300 miles west.

M 6.5 - 72km W of Challis, Idaho, 2020-03-31 23:52:31 (UTC) at 10km depth. Due to sparse population, very few people experienced more than light shaking. Check out the PAGER results: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us70008jr5/pager

Aftershock forecast from
@USGS
for the #IdahoEarthquake. If you felt the initial one, there's a good chance you're going to feel more earthquakes. In the near future. This is not fun, but it is natural. Hang in there, and remember to #DropCoverHoldOn to protect yourself!

Omg... I just realized I recorded that entire earthquake... My camera was sitting on a table as I was getting ready to do a Facetime interview. My significant other was taking a nap in the other room at the time (don't make fun of my freaked-out calls for him, LOL).

I'm here in the Boise Valley. This is the first earthquake I've felt since the Borah Peak quake in 1983.

I was in the living room, and felt/heard the heavy furniture in the dining room shake behind me. The dishes rattled in the hutch. I thought my husband was stomping around there and was startled when I saw him in the kitchen. When I stood up the shaking continued and I was confused, had there been an explosion, was it thunder? At the same time it started to hail. It had been rainy and overcast all day.

My husband confirmed it was an earthquake. As we stood in the doorway between the kitchen and dining room, we could see and feel the walls move. I was shocked how long it lasted. I couldn't believe we'd had an earthquake.

There was nothing on the news at first which made things further confusing. Finally the news picked it up and we started hearing from friends and family. My friends who live south of Missoula also felt it, but not to the extent we did.

There have been aftershocks but we haven't felt them. The epicenter was about 80 miles from Boise.
