The good thing about searches with dogs on land and on the water is that family and friends can organize these themselves, there is no need to wait for the Police, though their assistance is always appreciated.
I understood that some area's were searched by dogs, where the kayak and peddle was found,do wonder know if the are still can track his smell. According to Signi search dogs it can be done..Vermissing te water | Stichting SIGNI zoekhonden but I did understand that the weather can change very fast and also the wind moves in different directions,so easier said then done..imo
And since I have no clue about the treacherous curents,weather,wind,etc..maybe that is why, they only searched on land...?

Also I do agree with you that the bumpbag was a lucky find, that could not have been staged...but his phones seems to point in another direction..
And his luggage...could have sinked?
How deep is the fjord anyway?
It is this one...,right?

Tarjeis tweet says: Big reach of the antenna, also covering place where kayak was found 10km away. ALSO covering.
The Tussvika antenna is merely 200 metres from the spot where the kayak was found.
So..if I might ask..do you think it might be useful to search this area with a metal detector?
I did read that there are also some kind of underwater detectors...but seems like the coastguard and the dogs already searched these places..so Im not really sure,if it will be of any use..at all.

Yesterday the police told us Arjen got off the train on the 20th of August at Rogan, not at Fauske. Some details and a new timeline will follow.

Thank you Family of Arjen.

When found, the kayak was not made ready to go out in the ford. It was not unfolded totally, things were not put in place and there is a small hole in the bottom. The seat has been recovered too.

Thank you for this info, @Family of Arjen. I have been watching several videos of how to unfold the ORU kayak and put it all together. If the kayak is not unfolded completely, there is very little you can continue with if you want to do it right. Does not make sense. Any idea how the hole in the bottom was made?

Does the police have an explanation for this?

Could the kayak have been pushed into the water and first float and then slowly sink?

According the police it looks like the cause was a stone under the bottom. The hole is in the deepest part of the bottom.

Uru kayak stress test
shows it needs quite some force to damage it.

Was this the train that arrived 17. 29 in Rognan ? There is train back to Fauske (thinking of phone signal) at 19.20, but he could not have taken public transport if the vitness that supposedly saw him 3 times in Rognan is correct. If there are more people seen him after 19.20 in Rognan, I belive he, at least his phone, must have been with somebody with car back to Fauske.

After all the attempts to damage the kayak - still was able to float. Amazing.

Rock damage? After seeing this video I really wonder if a rock could do any damage. Anyone else have thoughts?

I saw that video before..believe that Chiatos posted that earlier...also did read the comments underneath the video, and it seems that one commentator has kinda a valid point?
Wonder if the video, above is the same type as Arjen bought?

Guess,I do not known,it has to be asked to the manufacturer if natural elements in that specific fjord can cause the damage it was found.
Did have a chat with someone www.fjords.com and he told me that the weather can change rapidly, the wind can also change rapidly in strenght and direction
Maybe if loaded with heavy luggage, the possible suggestion that Zazara made before?

A rock would not make a small hole in this type of kayak, unless the rock had a sharp angle and the kayak landed on that sharp angle. For this to cause a small hole, there would have been force, a lot of force. And the rock would probably not have been a normal rock.

Also, it is strange that the rock would have made a small hole and not a crack.

The ORU kayak is made of polypropylene, the same material that is used - in a different quality - for buckets. Try dropping a bucket on a sharp rock to make a small hole in the bucket. You will probably crack the material before you make that hole ~if you are lucky. Best chances of making a hole in the bottom of a bucket is with a pointed, needle-like object made of metal and a lot of force.

I'm sure the manufacturer of the kayak would like to know about the damage. Could the kayak fold back in case of a crash, I wonder?

I love all the info everybody is posting. It’s so interesting. And still a mystery. I so wish AK would appear and everything would be ok.

What I am trying to say is that the power of nature seems to be underestimated, seems to me different then a bucket and sharp rocks. And Arjens family said: "a small hole & kayak not ready"
What is a small hole?

If you read the describtion of the updated one carefully it says this : "The foundation of all Oru Kayak folding kayaks is a custom corrugated polypropylene."
&
Perhaps the biggest change is the new deck closure system. Instead of the old buckle straps, the updated Coast XT uses zipper channels along the entire length of the boat — the same system that is used on the current Bay ST. The system reminds me of those plastic covers you slide over handheld graters or microplane"

But then again I am not an expert or
manufactured kayaks

Thank you Family of Arjen.
Do you know where the kayak is stored?
Is it still in Norway or is it in NL?
Who has investigated the kayak?
Has the manufacturer of the kayak been contacted to help investigate?
In the enhanced images posted by Fernseh Kanal on Findarjen, "stab" holes are visible on the side/top of the kayak. Do the investigators know what caused these perforations?

The kayak is still in Norway, and you're right: an investigation into the possible causes of the damages has to be done.

Corrugated Plastic as Polypropylene will become slightly brittle as temperatures drop. https://www.packnetltd.com/blog/can-cold-weather-affect-packaging-materials/ This site says at below zero Fahrenheit, and at minus 60F, Polypropylene could crack if dropped or kicked. Some general techs: Coroplast | General Specifications of Polypropylene co-polymer resin Anyway, it would be useful to send pictures to the ones making or selling that origami kayak and hear what they suggest of the the damages.

Is it true that an unfolded kajak that the material (that is build with) isnt that strong as a normall kajak ?

I do hope that the manufacturer will be asked to investigate this...maybe we someone has/can find the instructions for better understanding about the damage

It seems that the video posted in this thread, isnt an unfolded kajak?
