A big crowd
Arjen Kamphuis has been working for security on the internet for at least twenty years, and in recent years he has reached a large audience through television programs and lectures. Can the battle against intelligence services be the reason why the Dutch is missing?
We may never get the answer, but neither his close friends exclude it.


Many speculations
The Dutch police have traveled home, Norwegian police have completed active searches, and none of the accommodation in Indre Salten has seen anything missing the Arjen Kamphuis the night he disappeared. The police have landed on both Rognan and Kvænflåget, but not found more of Kamphuis's luggage.

Speculation about what has happened is many, and Kamphuis's affiliation with Julian Assange and Wikileaks has contributed to the fact that the case has gained attention across large parts of the world.

Did not know
Theories about what has happened are many. The one who may have warned the most is that the visit is related to the defense satellite facility outside Fauske and cyber security center at Reitan.

Even his closest friends and family was not informed that the trip just went here.

Its odd that no one saw AK in Bodø,only to check in & out...when I am on vacation...I really like to eat breakfast,at least in a 4* hotel.

i think the tip about him with two other was nearby Stavanger, southern part, and Rørvika is quite a distance from Fauske/Bodø

the tunnel is covered by Google but its dark because its a tunnel :) the entrance for Kvænflågtunnelen towards Fauske is where they found his belongings

The Norwegian police find an orange tent in the area where the Dutchman might be possible. This tent would be there for about three weeks at that time.
Hikers in that area are called to contact the police. At that moment it is not known whether the orange tent of Kamphuis is or not.
In addition, a witness says to have seen the Dutch on 3 September in Denmark. The police take into account that Kamphuis did not go hiking in Bodø, but has traveled to another city. This is enough reason to start an investigation into the missing person of the Dutchman in Denmark.
In the meantime, the Dutch police discovered that the phone from Kamphuis had been on for 30 minutes on 30 August. The SIM card is then removed and replaced by a German SIM card. The last signal from the phone went through a radio tower in Vikeså. This radio mast is more than 1700 kilometers away from Bodø.

IMO is the two persons hard to compare in a "blackhat scene". Snowden was a leaker and committed a criminal act. Snowden was probably a good employee, but not a super expert like Arjen. Without knowing Arjen, I am quite sure he is not a person who will commit something criminal. Many individuals and organizations try to make the world aware of the weaknesses and the consequences of the digital community, that did Arjen too, but it makes no sense to snuggle everyone. He is more worth living alike for intelligence, NATO, governments and the public when taking his knowledge into account and expertise in the field. If you are to follow the NATO trail, you can see in the direction of NATO Turkey. The world's geopolitical hotspot, the jornalists in the country has terrible conditions, their internet is subjected to censorship and traffic to certain sites is blocked. The Turks want to buy Russian weapons systems. The Turks are deeply involved in the war in Syria. It must create concern in parts of NATO cooperation. The freighter from Rognan, "Beautrophy" arrives at Izmir in Turkey tomorrow 24 September. If Arjen is still on board, I think more of him he's a lonely wolf. If I had been a NATO planner, I had smuggled him into a base by the airway.

From day one, I have been more in love with the action movie scenario where Julian Assange is picked up by Beautrophy in Southampton. Then they pick up Arjen in Rognan. What they are doing in Northern Germany and Denmark I do not know, (going to Iceland?). And I imagine they change vessels in Izmir and take the last ride to Russia. The operation can be planned and performed by Dan Sommer who is expert in paramilitary maritime operations and is previously responsible for the security of Wikileaks and before being responsible for the security of the US Embassy in Iceland. These scenarios, I would myself be able to expose my family to the terrible situation, if the geopolitical situation was taken into account. I wear a tinfoil hat so big that it often falls over my eyes and covers my view. I am prejudiced and trying to squeeze some pieces into a puzzle game I've messed with the last year.

If one reads between the lines:

The first time ROGNAN was mentioned by police, was only after Arjens belongings had been found by the fisherman. On the 12th of September the police said: "The police has reason to believe that Arjen Kamphuis went with a local train from Bodø to Rognan on August 20th, departing from Bodø at 16.05, arriving in Rognan at 17.29."

Has reason to believe. No proof therefore. Why reason to believe? Because on that side of the Fjord, the water flows from Rognan to Tussvika and beyond.

And it was only after that discovery that the police decided to search that area (Tussvika). Now, why hadn't the police searched that area before? The police had already analysed the phone data of Arjen before that discovery. In fact, 6 days before the discovery, on the 6th of September, the Police had reported: "Now the Police has got certified information about his telephones, which are registrated in Stavanger the 30th of August."

Therefore on the 6th of September the police must have already known that Arjens phone had "pinged" on an antenna somewhere in or around Fauske, but apparently, they did not link that ping to Tussvika***. The link came much later, when Tarjei Abelsen reported about the last ping at 22:00 hrs on the 20th of August:

Tarjei wondered which of the antennas at Fauske had received the ping. He says: "Big reach of the antenna, also covering place where kayak was found 10km away."
Tarjei even wonders about an antenna very nearby Tussvika:

*** If it had been the "Tussvika antenna", then police would have searched the Tussvika area much earlier. But they did not. That leads me to believe that the antenna that was pinged, is perhaps in or on the other side of Fauske, not at Tussvika. At 22:00 hrs, Arjens phone was not at Tussvika, but somewhere else in or near Fauske.

Arjens train was leaving Fauske at 22.21. Why couldn't Arjen have been in Fauske at that time, waiting for his train? His phone pinged on an antenna that also reaches Tussvika. However, his phone did not ping the "Tussvika antenna" otherwise the police would have searched that area before. Therefore, Arjen was not at or near Tussvika on the 20th August, 22:00 hrs.

By the way: local fishermen were surprised that those belongings were found at/near Tussvika, after 3 weeks in the currents of the Fjord (see post #110).

It is written several places "The Norwegian police announce that Arjen's belongings have been found. " But is it more than the leather bum-bag with his ID, a kayak and the paddle ? He must have had a bag/ryggsekk with clothes, probably a laptop etc. and most likely he wouldn't bring all this stuff with him on a "short last evening kayak-tour" in wind and rain, but leave that in his tent, by the shore, in a cafe, hotel, the station etc. ..2 many issues with the kayak

In the Netherlands, she is known as a former member of the Pirate Party, and is now a key to the exploration campaign launched on the internet with the topic #FindArjen. So far no one could say anything about Kamphuis's movements after leaving the hotel in Bodø on August 20 with two black bags. Has he drowned in the Skjerstadfjord, he tries to stay hidden or has someone subjected him to something criminal. The coast guard has applied for the whole fjord, dogs have searched in the area of property has been found and witnesses in Nordland, Rogaland and abroad have signed up. More than 100 tips have come in. But still the matter is a mystery. The police can not rule out anything based on what they have found so far.

It was the foldable solar panel and cooking stuff,the branch from the airbed had selling points in NL,that I cant shake off..
Sorry guys,but it was found abonded and I do understand that he would NOT leave his devices there..but a place to load his device,cook,etc...like kinda of a shelter,maybe..?!
That's all I won't bring it up again. I promise ;)

"We know that he has had a work phone and a private phone in use. There are various phones that have been used on Fauske and Rogaland, "said Bjarte Walla in the police. The information that he distinguished between the phones has been received from Kamphuis's friends. The police have several witness observations that indicate Kamphuis has been on Rognan, but still has no safe observations after leaving Bodø.

The thought that maybe the Russians might have something to do with Kamphuis' disappearance did cross my mind, though I have no idea whether it's a realistic possibility or not. As I recall, there was widely thought to be a possible espionage element to Isdalskvinnen case. Norway's geographical position and political alignments, on the face of it, do make it likely that Russian agents and spies are (and have long been) operating in the country.

The time between August 20 when Arjen Kamphuis allegedly disappeared in Rognan, and the find of the wallet and the kayak three weeks later does not add up, IMHO it is far too long for that distance. Especially for the kayak, it is big, white and it floats. Very odd that no one noticed it before and informed the police.

The only explanation for the time lag that I can think of is that the kayak was stuck somewhere under water and got loose due to the current or the tide.

Summary:
The friend tells that he is very clever, very funny and always willing to help if people is interested in his area of expertise.
But he kept the details of his trip hidden, he had worked hard and was looking forward to be offline. He mentioned Northern-Norway and Spitsbergen, not Bodø. She dont exclude him being in the area because of military installations but it is not his style to do something illegal. She cant exclude that his opinions can have something to do with his disapearance.

He spread information and helped people, he was not a "black hat hacker". The police have no reason to believe that he wasnt on holiday.

In a post four months ago Kamphuis stated: "The NSA's desire to spy all over the world for economic and political reasons has made us all less secure. Unfortunately, the espionage has not contributed to what it should do, ie stop terrorist attacks. It has had no effect, said Kamphuis, and showed that a number of academic institutions in the United States have arrived at this. Digital self-defense Kamphuis explains that the problem is that as long as the NSA wants to monitor everything, technology must be less confident to make it possible. "I have deep faith in the idea that knowledge is power and knowledge gives people power, which is why I teach digital self-defense," Kamphuis says in his lecture.

He worked hard with these questions before going to Norway and he had had his own companies working contribute his knowledge about digital self-defense.

Both the norwegian and dutch police confirms that they have used unusual amount of resources in this case but no ties to his background. One police officers arrived 9th of september and one 16th of semtember, both stayed until thursday.
Norwegian police asked for help, much to investigate and two different languages. Walla points out that it is not normal to use the coast guard, but in this case they had the competence, expertize and equipment to search in the fjord.

As Saltenposten earlier mentioned a witness claims to have seen him the day after he disapeared at a grocery store in Fauske but nobody have seen him at the hotel or at the campside there.

The friend asks many questions:
  • Who had the phone in Vikeså and why went it on? Why change SIM-card? Where come the phone from and where is it now?
  • Did he go out in the kayak ? (poorly assembled) Why?
  • Where is the luggage? Did he take it with him in the kayak and why?
  • Is it accidental that he went to a place with a cyber centre without telling his friends?

This thing about the phone or phones gives me a splitting headache.
My understanding was that he had a dual SIM phone, with two different numbers in one device.

If the police speak of various phones, do they mean various devices or do they mean various SIM cards?

It is not much tide in Northern-Norway unfortunately and the current in the fjord is measured by researchers for other purposes and they claims that it is little stream in the upper layer and not much in the other layer...

Go drop another kayak in the fjord near Rognan and see what happens! The distance, the speed, if anyone notices it...
I'm all for science. If they find the place where the luggage went down, they may also find an explanation for the accident that may or may not have happened.

I no longer believe it was a robbery. Robbers would have taken his belt bag, or at least the money that was in it.
