North Las Vegas police: 12-year-old girl ‘sole suspect’ in father’s stabbing death

North Las Vegas police have arrested a 12-year-old girl in connection with a stabbing that left her father dead on Friday.

Detectives are continuing to work to understand the circumstances that led to the incident, police said. The identification of the 55-year-old man will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office at a later date.

the first article I linked states the girl is the one who initiated the call to police. I am going to withhold opining on this case until we learn more. I am curious as to what was going on in that house and the family dynamic. Due to the previous calls it is clear there was some strife going on and I'd rather have more info on events leading up to this one before I do so.

The caller also told police that the girl said she had seen blood near her father’s body and believed someone may have broken in, according to the North Las Vegas Police Department.
Police later arrived at the apartment in the 3400 block of Mercury Street, near the intersection of Civic Center Drive and Cheyenne Avenue, and found a 55-year-old man dead.
Investigators learned during their investigation that police had responded to the apartment on multiple occasions earlier this month, including the father reporting a runaway juvenile on Dec. 7, and a domestic disturbance on Dec. 13 where the girl was arrested and accused of battering her father and leaving visible injuries.

That takes a lot of rage to stab someone to death. I wouldn't be surprised if the victim was passed out, asleep, when the attacker felt "safe" enough to kill the victim.

Makes me wonder about the "back story" here.

I work with troubled adolescents. Young girls who physically attack their parents often do so when the parent takes their phone away--the phone the kid is using to contact people they shouldn't be. I'm seeing it more and more...wouldn't be surprised that's what happened here.

The article just up thread indicates that only the father and the daughter lived in the apartment.

Many of his kids are married.

I remember being that age, hormones really do mess up your thinking and create huge irrational rages. I seriously wonder if the hormones in milk, meat, other items, are contributory factors with teens, and the uptick of violent behavior.

There's a reason a kid runs away from home. Especially at that young of an age. The obvious reason is they don't want to be there, but the unobvious reason is... Why don't they? Because IMO it's something. So, she ran away in the past to get away from "something", and then she stabbed her father to death.
