I have my doubts about this.the parents claim there were no red flags and that the 13 year old had never been in therapy and never been in any kind of trouble at school or elsewhere.

large knive(s). From what I read she started with the kitchen butchers knife, and then (probably not doing as much damage as she wanted) left and came back with a "hunting knife", which are stronger and better designed for stabbing and killing. JMOI think for most people it would depend on the relationship they had with the 13 y.o., prior to the her stabbing her young sister 10 times with a large knife.
Hard to know. Reports do vary. This one says the 7 yr old left the note. Also says the 13 year old called her stepfather after stabbing the child. And the knife is described as the mother's "self-defense" knife. Definitely a tragedy.I had originally thought that the 7 year old left the toilet flushing note and the 13 year old got offended, but now that you mention it, maybe it was the other way around!
Yes, the 7 year old seems to have been the cuddled one and jealousy may have been brewing.
Tragic all around, and it’s too bad it couldn’t have been avoided, but the parents claim there were no red flags and that the 13 year old had never been in therapy and never been in any kind of trouble at school or elsewhere.
But yes, communication problems had to have been part of the dynamic which broke down horribly.
I think there had to be some degree of denial, definitely.Hmmm...
I remember you wrote upthread about "being in denial".
Agree 100%

Taylor girl ambushed sister in bathroom after argument, fatally stabbing her
The 13-year-old girl was charged as a juvenile, prosecutors said, with the hopes that she could be rehabilitated.www.detroitnews.com
If for some reason or other the parents were looking the wrong way, they wouldn't have seen the red flags. MOO, but the parents claim there were no red flags
True. I know from experience within my family that people can and often do miss red flags even when they are clearly showing, through denial or self-protection, etc.If for some reason or other the parents were looking the wrong way, they wouldn't have seen the red flags. MOO
Why would a parent leave something like that accessible for one thing? And, the older kid seemed to know about it, which is another whole problem! It's like people that leave firearms accessible, there is no reason for it!large knive(s). It's surprising to me the 13 year old knew where to quickly find the hunting knife when the kitchen knife "wasn't getting the job done." (Per a police detective) Various reports have described the hunting knife as the mother's "self-defense" knife. Supposedly it was kept in the laundry room. (Sounds like a weapon to me.) Taylor girl ambushed sister in bathroom after argument, fatally stabbing herkitchen tools live in the kitchen? mine never were under lock and key, even when my children were younger? Sure they were kept up and out of reach of littles but my teens had access to them. At 13 I and my children after me already knew how to prep and cook certain meals and use those kitchen tools.
as to the hunting knife with serrated edge, I'm sure that was probably put up somewhere out of reach of littles but probably also not under lock and key.
Guns are weapons, knives are tools JMO
It was a combat knife, as per the pictures in the article, and definitely a weapon. It's surprising to me the 13 year old knew where to quickly find the hunting knife when the kitchen knife "wasn't getting the job done." "Police said the girls' parents left them at the home on Banner Avenue around 11:15 a.m. Saturday. A few hours later, an argument would lead to the older girl stabbing her sister multiple times."How Long? A Two Hour Tour?
Someone ahead of me at grocery checkout was singing Gilligan's Island theme song, prompting me to to wonder about how long these parents were away from the house.
IIRC one of the MSM stories said -
Parents planned to go shopping/run errands for two hours (For kids their ages, seems reasonable under many or most circumstances).
But were they actually gone much, much, much longer?
May or may not be relevant.
Can someone pls refresh my memory about length of the parent's planned absence and/or actual absence w a LINK, not a paraphrase? Did LE comment on length of absence? TiA
But they were STILL gone at that time, so this still tells us nothing about how long they were actually left alone for. I would like to know how long after the 911 call did the parents return home.So the parents were gone less than 2 hours when it happened - I think any reasonable non-paranoid parent would be ok with that.

Was emergency vehicle still at the home when they got back? Had the victim already been taken away? Was the suspect still at the home, perhaps waiting with LE? Or did the parents return home to an empty house? Surely someone in LE would've been left there to await their arrival, if both daughters had already been removed. Or maybe LE was able to reach the parents by phone and let them know they needed to return immediately due to an emergency situation? If that happened, we will never know how long the girls would have potentially been left alone. Not that it mattered in the end. Under 2 hrs was too long this time.
Oh, ok, I knew that, but I got confused and was thinking of her stepfather as someone who lived somewhere else, and the parents who were out that day as her mother and father, so that changes my whole understanding, thank you.I didn't find anything specific about their return time, but it sounds like the parents were notified before police.
"Authorities said the teen stabbed the 7-year-old up to 10 times, before calling her stepfather and 911."

This is so tragic - and I know in this forum we see so many tragic things, but wow. The level of pain this family must be going through...I didn't find anything specific about their return time, but it sounds like the parents were notified before police.
