The weather was horrible on Tuesday, Jan 15. It started snowing mid-day and the evening commute was heavily impacted by wind and blowing heavy wet snow. I remember feeling kinda safe on Tuesday because no one in their right mind would be out looking to commit murder in the wet cold snow on Tuesday night.

It warmed up quickly on Wed, Jan 16 and the south-facing snow was melted quickly by the end of the day.

So, the attack in south Reno may very well have occurred during daylight hours.

My misplaced peace of mind !

I find it pretty interesting these murders have occurred in the same general area from Carson. Generally, investigators can draw a radius of murders to get a general idea of a murderer's range. Carson City is approximately the same distance from both; maybe the perp is from Carson? Especially if it's his first murders.

Thanks! I thought of that too--not sure if it's better to be at home or leave and come back to the unknown. uggghh! Not that I have much choice as I work and not much of that is getting done today. haha
My kids are in school and my hubby works during the day. I do have 3 big dogs--2 German Shepherd's and a 100 lb lab so I'm hoping they are a good deterrent :)

I'm also locked and loaded as well. That being said, none of that makes me feel any better. It's a very unnerving feeling. I'm jumpy and have more of a need to check out EVERY noise, every car that I hear go by the house, more paranoid when the dogs alert or bark, etc. Yeah, I hope they catch this perp soon.

I hate this uncertainty. My poor daughter was afraid to eat her breakfast downstairs this am by herself. I don't blame her. It's very unsettling knowing somebody like this is preying on people

Hmm very interesting point.

I find the Ranchos and the Zolezzi area to be very different. The Ranchos is full of people who've owned their homes for 30 years as they raised their families there. It's also off the radar if you are perp driving around looking for loot. It's now older homes that retired people live in. Not that many are unoccupied, or clearly second homes for retirees. My theory was that it was someone who knew who the older single women were - like a lawn worker, a handyman. Someone who an older women would know by sight and open their home to. Sadly, my favorite restaurant, the Country Club Basque Restaurant is close by.

The Zolezzi house is quite new, much larger, and more expensive. It is also in an area that doesn;t have bright streetlights, despite being quite close to the main thoughfare of Virginia Street. A Walmart, big shopping center with fast food places, etc are within easy walking distance. I think it's also likely the couple had a pet and because of the value of the home, an alarm and some surveillance cameras.

One of the news articles showed a picture of one of the victims' homes, and comments were showing that people saw an 'area patrolled by Bouvier des Flander' sign in front of the house, indicating it's a great guarding breed.

Another comment mentioned a name (won't post yet as they have not released names of victims in Reno) but somebody verified they had the dog.

As somebody who's hoping dogs were/are a deterrent, this raises more questions should it be true.

I will say, as a local, it's VERY frustrating to hear and see so many rumors from so many 'experts'. Every where I turn somebody heard from 'an authority' but can't or won't reveal their source. SO many rumors. I won't repeat them obviously because I can't verify them but it's driving me nuts!.

All they are doing is adding to the fear mongering and causing more panic but telling themselves and everyone else they have it on good authority and trying to help but in reality they are doing the opposite. uggghh!

Were the murders in the Reno area of single older people too? I'm a little unclear on that. Thanks!

They have not released ages or names other than it's an elderly couple, male and female older than 50, both in the same house.

The first victim in the Ranchos had a small dog. She also was a very young looking 56

oh I just looked her up . . she did look young. yikes! Everyone keeps talking about how he/they are targeting seniors but 56 is not old and she did NOT look old. Sad :(

Yes, a very lovely woman. And she is from one of the well-connected older families in the area. Someone who everyone would know

This is all so sad. Our community is not used to these types of crimes. People are so uneasy and scared right now. I sure hope they have some answers sooner rather than later.

Where they are searching is the interstate south of the Reno murders. One of the photos shows searchers in the northbound lane, about 2 miles north of Carson City.

There are three traffic cameras along that route in Washoe Valley. One is on the south side of Lakeview Hill, facing north. It doesn’t actually show Washoe Valley

The second is about half a mile north of the Eastlake Blvd underpass, facing north

The third is about midway in Washoe Valley, facing south, so you can see the Belleview Road overpass.

Right now you can see the traffic hold on the southbound traffic at Bellvue as they search the road

MOO: This suggests they belive the perp traveled SOUTH after the Reno murders, back toward Carson City, the turnoff to Tahoe and Gardnerville/Minden area.

Interesting. Carson City, or the Highway 50 region towards Moundhouse, Dayton, Silver Springs would be the center between the two murder sites

But if the perp is young, it doesn't matter how she looks, he/she will consider her old.

I wonder if there is a common thread....same workout place, the SS office, the post office, lawn maintenance, meter readers etc.

You can see the group of about 6 searchers looking in the median between the two highway lanes right now. Middle of Washoe Valley
