Friends say slain Reno couple were former Reno Rodeo president, wife

The couple found dead in their south Reno home Wednesday were beloved members of the Reno Rodeo Association and community.

Jerry David was president of the Reno Rodeo in 2006 and his wife Sherri David was a Rodeo Association member. The couple was found dead at about 4 p.m. Wednesday in their home on La Guardia Lane off Zolezzi Lane in South Reno. According to property records, the couple had owned the home since 1986.

Wow. I’m certain they would be animal-lovers and have a dog or two and maybe a horse or two on that property

And I don’t think the victims in the Ranchos were associated with Reno Rodeo or livestock activities

I agree, I would tend to think they would have an animal or two as well. I'm fairly certain people have said they did, but again, nothing has been confirmed yet. I thought they were the ones with the guard dog I posted about earlier, which really has me wondering.

We've all seen where they do interviews with criminals and how they admit they look for easy prey, easy houses and places with dogs are usually off limits. So where was the dog, what happened to the dog?

So many questions obviously . . . and IF this is a pattern, will the next one come this weekend since they are striking every 3-4 days?

MOO: I would think the couple in Reno were also likely to have had some firearms.

Footage shown by one of the stations last week carrying one of the Douglas County Sheriff’s press conferences showed some shots of the Dresslerville Road property with that sign/plaque on the fence with “Area Patrolled by Bouvier des Flanders” and the image of a dog on it. I don’t have any confirmation that she ever had a Bouvier or still had one, but it would seem a reasonable conclusion.

I think it’s something to be concerned about. At least at night I can keep my alarm system on.

It’s much more difficult during the day. I guess I would want to know if the murders occurred during daylight hours and certainly if they broke in, rather than gained access through an unlocked door or some deception to get the victims to allow them into the house.

It really would be helpful to have LE gives us a smidgy more information.

BTW- Another person I w0rk with knew the Reno victims, through rodeo and livestock

I agree . . .I have not seen definitive info on time of crimes. Many rumors from 'experts and I heard from so and so' but nothing officially reported. Not to say the perp couldn't change it up either but still.

Also, IF they strike every 3-4 days I wonder if they work shift jobs like they work 3 12 hour shifts, off 4 days, back and forth, etc?

Everyone is so anxious for any bit of info. I can't believe we haven't heard anything at all today. Certainly by now you'd think they at least know if they are connected and if we're dealing with the same perp at this point.

Shift work.... hmmm

Hospitals have shift work and so do casinos

well, just a thought. Obviously, it could still be anyone, but the timeline so far made me think of that right off the bat. I could be totally off base as we still really don't have much info.

One of the comments in the Reno Gazette-Journal about the deceased Reno couple measures his love of cards.

Again...... would they be regulars at the Tamarack Casino which is within walking distance of their home?

I'm just really curious at the no forced entry . . .need more specific info on just how the perp entered.

for the Gardnerville cases: But he says in both cases, the killer(s) entered the homes without force and without ringing doorbells or knocking on doors, and things were taken from both homes. He is not releasing information about the causes of death, though Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam says guns were used in both Gardnerville deaths.

Still nothing on the Reno ones (officially that is).

And the article about them not suspecting burglary as motivation . . . is he taking items for trinkets/trophies?

How would DCSO know there was no knocking on the door or doorbells? Wouldn’t they have to have a surveillance tape or alarm system to tell them that?

The victim on Dresslerville Road, esp. Her home was set back from the road and she was alone at the time. How could he claim that without some backup information?

Names released of victims of south Reno murders

UPDATE: The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people killed earlier this week at a south Reno home.
The ME’s Office says 81-year-old Jerry David and his wife, 80-year-old Sherri David were found dead Wednesday afternoon in their home on La Guardia Lane east of Valley Springs Road.

Hmm, good question! Hopefully there is some surveillance tape or something. I was wondering how they know as well. So many questions . . .

I hope those ballistics results are available VERY SOON

Still not confirming a connection . . .they knew pretty fast with the first two that those were connected so wonder why the delay here.

Umm, different jurisdictions

Somewhat different profiles; Single older females vs a couple. Nightime entry vs (presumed) daytime entry.

The Davids were 81 and 80.

hmm, pertaining to the search today:
According to Bob Harmon from the Sheriff's Office, search and rescue teams along with K9 units were on site investigating at the corridor of I-580 in Washoe Valley.

Harmon told News 4-Fox 11 that the Sheriff's Office got a tip saying some items from the David household may have been tossed out in that area. There is no word yet on whether or not any items have been found.

And during the day for Reno according to LE:
WCSO: both victims in La Guardia Lane homicide investigation identified
Officials said the homicides happened about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, when the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was notified of 'suspicious circumstances' at a home on La Guardia Lane east of Valley Springs Road.

When deputies arrived on scene and conducted a search, they found the Davids dead in their home.

I'm seeing conflicting names at the Reno Gazette-Journal (and here). I think their last name is David, not Davis?

RGJ uses Davis in the headline and David in the text of their article (unless they've corrected it since I looked).

I'm following the Kelsey Berreth case and the Jayme Closs case and both seem to have so much in the way of careless, shoddy (or just plain unethical) news reporting. I sure hope that's not becoming the norm but I'm afraid it is.

LE had a lot of resources down there: Helicopter, HASTY team with canine search dogs. at least 8 LE individuals, shut down a major artery for at least 5 hours, severely restricting access into the State Capital of Carson City.

What a strange tip - could it be the perp’s own games with LE?

What would one throw out on a major highway so easily searched? A TV? Cups? Rodeo trophies? It’s not like you could easily identify something as you are driving past at 70mph.

Are the same sorts of things missing from the Douglas Couty cases?
This sounds like the perp trolling LE and it has the unpleasant sense of a random spree killing like this

I’ve corrected all my coments to David. That’s the surname I’m seeing.
