NV - 4 Murders in one week, LE asking for tips, Washoe & Douglas Counties, Jan 2019 *arrest*

This is of interest regarding the immigration charges and the state charges.

Bottom line:
"Only after a conviction and time served in prison on all counts will the feds step in and take custody of a defendant and then deport that person to their home country.

Because of the immigration violation, a defendant cannot be released on bail despite that fact it is posted by a state court"

Long legal road ahead for Martinez-Guzman

This whole thing is not holding together very well for me, right now.

Overkill, paltry stolen goods possibly fenced.

I don't think this is as straightforward as it seems

Are you thinking maybe wrong guy? Or accomplices? Or right guy but odd motive such as some kind of gang initiation? Or?

All MOO, just throwing out ideas, not suggesting or implying any of them...

Despite Homicide Suspect in Custody, Residents Should Stay Vigilant With Home Security

Lots of people speculating if they have the right guy based on news reports and LE warning people to stay alert and diligent. We have had a LOT of growth in our area (one of the fastest in the country) so of course with that comes increased crime, unfortunately. Others are wondering if there were others involved, hard to believe a 19 year old with no record did all of this on his own or as his first crime or was he only involved in possession of the stolen goods, etc? Or a scapegoat? Lots of questions.

I don't know what I think yet . . . waiting to see as the story develops. I'm just putting what I've seen out there so far as to what a lot of the community is feeling. Then again many feel LE knows what they are doing and trust the system and the truth will come out thru the process. Time will tell.

New details emerge in arrest of Douglas, Washoe Co. murder suspect
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday that police vehicles pinned a BMW driven by 19-year-old Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman during Saturday's arrest in a Carson City mall parking lot.

Furlong says a flash-bang grenade was used, but no gunshots were fired.

Furlong says Martinez-Guzman did not have a weapon when he was handcuffed.

I wonder who's BMW that was he was driving.

Did he drive it to the murder scenes?

Additional info from KOLO News article:

Sheriff: "He's our guy and I'm comfortable he acted alone"

The paragraphs I found most interesting:

"Search warrants followed, and with it, discovery of a huge amount of evidence found at a residence on Menlo Drive in east Carson City and another in a nearby duplex on Woodside.

"There is a huge amount of evidence. It's a huge part of the case, but it's very cumbersome and it's the non-exciting part of law enforcement, writing the reports and organizing the case so that you have a document that anyone could read from start to finish and understand what has occurred."

But while that evidence is processed, linked to individual crime scenes, expected murder charges are pending. Little information is being released. Coverley says everyone in the community, not just the media, is asking for more.

"I'm asking them to be patient and trust us. I know--I hate to say 100 percent--but I'm about as close as I can get that he is our guy and he acted alone."

Coverley says it's very likely some of the evidence will be linked to other crimes, burglaries."

If he has been stashing stolen goods at more than one place, it sounds like he has had an accomplice or accomplices. I hope LE can arrest them and deal with them in the strictest possible way.

Maybe he carried out the murders alone, I don't know, but his prior criminal behavior surely was abetted by an other person or persons.

If I was the Carson City DA, I'd want to go full throttle on the cottage industry he was part of.

MOO, of course

Well, nowadays so many people have security camera's so maybe he was caught on surveillance? I thought it odd from the beginning when LE was stating they knew he didn't get in via ringing doorbells or knocking on doors. It was like they KNEW from the beginning where and how he got in and it wasn't forced entry. Obviously, the location of the victims might have been a clue as well so I'm speculating here.

I believe they had a tip from a neighbor at the Reno location regarding the car as well. I could be wrong but they had 1000's of tips very quickly and were searching a pretty big area along the highway as well to link this guy to the victims and build more evidence.

Also, they caught him with stolen items from the home(s) linking him automatically to the victims. I don't think our perp was very bright. Very curious what the connection and motive were tho.

Considering he was killing every 3-4 days, personally IF they have the right guy, I am very relieved. This entire community was very on edge.

Man suspected of killing four charged with selling stolen jewelry

A man suspected of killing four people in south Reno and the Gardnerville Ranchos area sold stolen jewelry belonging to two of them at a Carson City coin store, charges filed in Carson Justice Court Wednesday allege.

Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman, 19, sold an Elks ring belonging to Gerald David for $126 and sold stolen silver rings, toe rings and turquoise ring belonged to Connie Koontz for $33 to Northern Nevada Coin at 601 N. Carson St. in Carson City, the charges said.

He made 3 separate trips to pawn the jewelry. Jan 12, Jan 14 and Jan 17. Just after the murders/

He had 16 pieces of Connie Koontz' jewelry.

How do you go from burglary to execution murders for $159?

Who's BMW was he driving?

I was feeling a lot better today until I read this..... This is freakin' horrible

I AM FURIOUSLY ANGRY

Interesting . . . he had a passport!
EXCLUSIVE: Coin shop owner helps detectives with murder investigations

Rowe tells KOLO 8 News Now, that’s because his shop is required to have a paper trail for everything.

“We take I.D. on every item that was brought in, we report it each and every day with leads online to the Sheriff’s Office.”

He says, when Martinez-Guzman came, the murder suspect gave them a foreign passport for identification.

“The passport name and the name he presented us with, and the police have as a suspect, are the same name.”

Rowe says the alleged decision to bring the stolen items to his shop made a tough case easier for authorities.

I am thankful that Allan Rowe contacted the CCSO, but how often is it considered “innocent” and normal to have someone who can’t speak English and has only a foreign passport for ID to pawn jewelry that doesn’t appear to have come from his family or to have a large amount of jewelry like that to pawn?

And to come back 3x, each time the day after a horrendous and shocking murder?

And what is the real story about the watch?

Did he or did he not give it to a family member?

I really want all those guilty of receiving stolen property, or anyone who can be charged with accessory to murder charged, supplying weapons, or any other violation of law charged and sent to trial.

He was not operating in a vaccuum

His arraignment is in Carson City today at 1:30 and is reportedly only for the Carson City charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, and receiving money under false circumstances.

Carson City: Wilbur Martinez-Guzman allegedly pawned murder victims' jewelry at coin shop

I read somewhere it is taking so long for multiple reasons: they are making sure they have a solid case and they have so much evidence to comb thru, the charges are in multiple jurisdictions and I also heard they have up to a year to file murder charges--that part I'm not sure on.

I'm curious how/where this will all play out since he crossed county lines and since immigration is obviously an issue as well. And, having a passport, well now I'm wondering, was he here legally at some point and didn't go back or was it a fake passport?

I also saw he was eligible for deportation but I'm not sure how any of that works. I imagine we will be paying for this guy for a long, long time.

His murders were in Douglas and Washoe county so Carson City County couldn’t charge him with those murders.

I believe Douglas and Washoe are taking their time in determining how to arraign him and try him. Maybe depends on who has the most evidence vs which murders occured first.

I would interpret the passport story as he had an El Salvadoran passport. It might have been “legal” for El Salvador, but he does not have any documents for legal US entry.

There is an article several pages back that explains the deportation stuff.

If convicted by any of the courts: Carson City, Douglas County, or Washoe County, he must serve their sentences fully before being deported. So if he received maximum sentences, he would most likely die of old age in Nevada Maximum Men’s prison before he could be deported. MOO. I am not a lawyer, just read the article

Yeah, ALL of us, including the families of the victims of his murders will actually pay for his fair trial, possibly appeals, and his incarceration.

I just want all the others associated with him that are guilty to be duly charged and punished

I am IMMENSELY grateful that LE got this murdering scum out of circulation when they did.

Carson City Sheriff's Officers are such BRAVE people.

When they took him down in the mall parking lot with their carefully designed tactical manuever they probably had no idea he could have had 12 guns in his possession.

We will never know how many lives they saved.

Carson City woman speaks about her friendship with murder suspect Wilbur Martinez-Guzman

Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman was not the man Claudia Mendoza thought he was.

She knew him as the man who offered to do work around the house, brought her children cookies and occasionally slept on her couch.

But he is also the man who was arrested in connection to the deaths of four people, all shot and killed inside their homes within a span of a week in two Northern Nevada counties.

“I never imagined this would happen,” Mendoza said in Spanish. “God has taught me a valuable life lesson. I thank God because I learned something new: not to trust just any person and not to let anyone into the house.”

Ugggh, I really wish he had come upon an armed homeowner instead of sitting in that chair with that smirk on his face. Disgusting!!!
