Agreed, but his brother may be "minimizing" his brother's odd behavior quirks. Brother first implied "no guns", then "he had a gun or two" and then added "Well, he might have had a long gun(rifle?), too." Then still later, it was reported Stephen Paddock/the shooter actually took Eric's children shooting!!! (A trip he claims was paid for by the casinos....) ????
"He knew his brother owned a couple of handguns but was shocked at the rapid-fire weapon apparently used by Stephen Paddock in Las Vegas. He said his brother didn’t hunt, barely shot his guns and once took Eric Paddock’s children on a skeet-shooting trip paid for by the casinos."

What casino?
How long ago?
What do his gambling logs show? (Win/loss reports)

Personally I think he was a little man, a bean counter, who didn't have much luck with women.....and a gun made him feel superior.
btw...I am a female bean counter.....common term used in my office, ok.

Hmm...not sure about that. He was married twice and had a current girlfriend/companion. He was a bean counter, but also owned property and seemed successful. A neighbor described him as quiet, but I'm not picking up the disgruntled guy who can't get a chick vibe.

At least not yet. We have a lot to learn yet.

First, weapons are not outlawed in Vegas. Second, housekeeping is not allowed to go through a guest's things. If they were in bags, such as golf bags or suitcases, housekeeping would have no idea what's in the luggage.

I can attest to this. I work at a Hotel and he may have also had a "Do Not Disturb" sign/key card on his door which forbids anyone from entering the room.

There is also something called the "Privacy Act" and we cannot legally give out ANY information to anyone about ANY guest staying at the property. Even Law Enforcement would have to get a search warrant in order for us to give out any information.

Now, if we feel there may be something illegal going on... we have every right to contact Law Enforcement, but I'd have to know the layout of the Hotel he was at because a lot of times, people check in at the Front Desk, but use their key cards to bring their luggage into other entrances closest to their rooms/elevators. Sure there are cameras, but they don't have x-ray vision.

I feel horrible for the staff at the Mandalay Bay. They are victims too.

I found a floor plan for the Mandalay, sorry if it's already been posted. I rotated it so it's facing north (not that it makes a lot of difference!) meaning if he had the corner suite his room would be the wrap-around one circled at the top of the pic. I think?!

I am so impressed with the press conferences and updates. I know they are exhausted but they are keeping everyone well informed.

OMG, YES! Listen, if the shooter is a Muslim, the shooting is terrorism; if the shooter is a black man, it's used to inflame racial hate and division. Oh, but is a white male, so it's a lone wolf, mentally ill that just snapped. Sickening!

I would like to state for the record that I do NOT reserve the question of mental illness for white perpetrators. As my other posts indicate, the question of mental illness does NOT equate excuse. It does not equate that the person was not in control of his or her actions. It does not equate that they "Did not know what they were doing". Again, you can be have a personality disorder, you can have suicidal or homicidal ideation and be VERY AWARE that what you are doing is going to harm or kill another human, you can even enjoy it. And yes, Personality Disorders are a diagnosable mental illness.

I am equally frustrated with this confusion and the constant semantics of what terrorism is and isn't. This is terrorism. It was terrorism when African Americans were slaughtered in a church, it was terrorism when movie goers were slaughtered while watching Batman, it was terrorism when Little First Graders were massacred while learning the alphabet. It was terrorism when LGBTQ were murdered in cold blood while out having a good time. All domestic terrorism.

The question of the presence of mental illness, for me, is not intended to erase the horror of what the perpetrator has done, is not reserved for white perpetrators, and certainly does not mean that they they did not know right from wrong.

Agree. The sheriff looks exhausted, but he keeps letting the public know what's going on. It's nice when LE realizes that's important.

Most of these guns come apart and are in cases. I would imagine you could sneak 3 rifles in cases in 1 good sized duffle bag. I don't think getting the guns inside that much of a problem. Assembly in room, multiple days to get everything in.

Large hotels do have security cameras but not everywhere. The entrances to the hotel, the front desk, the main lobby and the parking structure entrance probably have cameras. Every part of the casino will have good camera coverage. The hallways on each floor are unlikely to be covered.

It should be possible to find video of the suspect bringing bags or boxes that have enough space to hold all the guns and ammunition found in the room. Considering the number of firearms it may have taken several trips. Anyone other than a hotel valet that helped with his luggage would be a person of interest.

I'd not even rule out the valet who helped carry bags, as being a poi, tbh. Anyone and everyone he had contact with would be a poi. However, when I have a number of bags, I usually get the valet carts, load them up at my car, and take my things to my room, myself, and then return the carts. If I were Paddock, that's what I'd have done, because it's less likely that anyone would notice that I had ten firearms in my vehicle, and was carrying them up to my motel room.

You must look at the whole picture- Here is a man that, by all accounts lived a productive, law abiding life. Something
happened for him to commit such a heinous crime. Otherwise we need to ask- how was he able to live under the radar all these years? I will be very interested in knowing if they study his brain for pathology.

Maybe he has just never been "caught?"

He does!

Vegas is also the land of mind-your-own-business. "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." That's the whole allure of Sin City. So I wouldn't be surprised to hear that people did see an old man struggling with bulky, heavy bags and didn't pay it any mind.

Not to mention. He's an old white man, nobody really ever suspects that type of person of nefarious activity. JMO.

Reportedly the shooter was also a multimillionaire so I'm sure he could afford to have his heavy bags taken to his room.

I am not sure if this is allowed here but it is for those who would like to be able to do something to help. This has come across my FB page several times, as I have family living in the Vegas area. The needed items can be ordered from Amazon and delivered to the Ronald McDonald House address listed in the information. There is same day delivery available through Amazon, but these items will be needed for quite some time for the families of those injured and receiving treatment.

Hi friends, we need your help. We are devastated about the news of last night's shooting and the overwhelming number of people who have been effected. We are currently working alongside Red Cross to fill any gaps they may have in providing food services and immediate resources. Many have already jumped in to prepare healthy sack lunches that we will be delivering all day to the families at and outside of Sunrise and UMC. This may be some people's only meal of the day. You can help by donating non-perishable single serve food items like bags of pretzels and chips, granola bars, water, etc. You can drop these items off at 2323 Potosi St. Las Vegas, NV 89146. We greatly appreciate your support during this difficult time for our community and our thoughts are with every single family in Las Vegas.

I shared this on my FB. I'm so upset. All I can do from where I am is pray!

Maybe they need to start scanning/inspecting people's luggage when they check into the hotel, as airlines do.

JMO, I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel with a gun show or some such with people all over the hotel packing dangerous assault weapons, etc. In the future I'll check which conventions are scheduled on site before I make a hotel reservation.

Wonder if law enforcement will mandate an autopsy and brain study to see if something pathological could have caused
this?
Something like a tumor on the amygdala or another area that controls behavior could have manifested and caused this.

I sure hope so! I hope they study his brain.

Are there that many people who have been forced to stay in Las Vegas after the attack? That's a shame. Personally, I would have headed out of town hours ago.

Many hotels have gun policies, and some you can find online. I learned that this morning. I never thought to check before but I know people go away on hunting trips and stay in hotels along the way.
